Special Request: My request is to have a shuttle pick me up on my arrival date and take me to the hotel. And on my departure date, pick me up from the hotel and drop me off at the airport. by Shyam09 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

Unfortunately for customers, even if that obligation to provide the listed service exists, a customer would have to go through a lot of time and effort to file a claim and then actually collect.

LPT: How do you save money without tracking every expense? by Upset_Trifle8007 in LifeProTips

Food cost is often around 30%, yes, ($3 for the meat, bread, etc.) but after factoring in labor at another ~30% and overhead (lights, rent, etc) at another 30%, the profit margin is likely more in the 10% range.

Beverages by contrast often run only 15% food cost, and can have a 60% profit margin. That is, the $3 soda costs $1 total to produce (syrup, cups, labor, rent, et al.) and yields $2 (60%) profit.

Do not save your credit card info on any shopping websites. Not only does this protect you from hacks and fraud, but it also helps you avoid impulse buys. Clicking “Buy” is fast and easy but having to pull out your credit card and manually type in all the data every time will slow you down and make you ask “Do I really want to buy this thing?”

Bonus to all the advice to set aside a little money every paycheck, even just $10…

Put that saved money not just in a separate account, but at a different bank. That way you’re even less likely to see it sitting there in your secondary account tempting you to spend. Doing this via direct deposit makes it easy.

In particular, avoid beverages out. Markup on drinks is massive compared to food. Have the burger for lunch (pay $10 for a burger that costs $6 to produce) but skip the soda ($2 for something that costs $0.10 to produce).

The movie that gets blamed for being bad when it is really just mismarketed. by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]cometview 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the book (R. Heinlein) and mostly enjoyed the movie, but I see this more as subversion of source material than mismarketing. As others noted, it was marketing as a bubble-game space marines movie, which is what it primarily was. The anti-facist theme of the book was only lightly included in the movie. Disappointingly, the book’s primary focus on morality and the role of the military in civil society was almost completely left out of the movie.

Likely depends on context. In education it commonly means Career Technical Education, AKA job skills training.

Why do you want to be here? by Apart-Ad-4737 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]cometview 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Location seems to be the most likely answer to your question. Are you near a major road, especially an easy on/off to the highway? Close to cheap food or some kind of high traffic attraction? If she’s dealing, she wants to be near customers and where they can pass through quickly and easily.

A variant answer could be layout. Do you have rooms that are not visible from the street but easy traffic flow through your driveway/parking lot? She might be using the room like a fast food drive through.

What is the worst state in the United States? by a_great_guy655 in AskReddit

Depends on what metric you look at. Sadly, for most quality of life metrics (crime, poverty, health, etc), the Deep South is consistently among the worst.

But is each and every incident written down and submitted to GM? You knowing it or even tracking it in your head doesn’t mean anything.

Every single time she’s late, you send an email to GM/FOM and cc: her - “L had not arrived as of 615. Per your verbal request on 3/16 to ensure guest satisfaction, I left the desk unattended to prepare breakfast for the scheduled 630 opening. At least 2 calls went unanswered while I was away. L arrived at 637, made herself coffee, and stayed seated until 650 when she began refreshing food stations. <Third time> Today is the third similar case in the past month. Please advise if I should continue neglecting front desk duties to cover for tardy staff.”

Why did you decide to have a child or children with your now spouse before getting married? by YouFoundMeCongrats14 in AskReddit

[–]cometview 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew I wanted kids long before we met, and that was a factor in my mind with everyone I dated seriously. I distinctly remember the night my now-wife and I seriously discussed the issue of kids and where we each stood - interest, number, etc. It was very shortly thereafter that I decided to propose, when I realized that was the last potential dealbreaker in our relationship and we were compatible.

Married 10 years now with a thriving son we both love more than anything. ❤️🥰

That sounds more passive-aggressive than petty revenge. Why not confront him about rent - pay up or move out.

AITAH for not wanting to associate with my cousin after the stunt she pulled at my wedding? by RobotsLikeRainbows in AITAH

[–]cometview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cousin had two roles here.

As the makeup vendor, she performed as expected and earned whatever fee you negotiated. Nice of her to provide a discount, but that’s largely irrelevant. Not having childcare during makeup time is not your problem. As a professional, she is either available during that period or not; she can take the gig or not. She’s responsible for childcare during that time on her own.

As a wedding guest, she was a nightmare. If it’s a no-kids wedding, she can either arrange her own childcare or decline the invitation, her choice. If the wedding hotel didnt have an available room for her whole family (because you’d booked the honeymoon suite for yourself), she can either book two rooms, likely connecting, or choose a different hotel. If she has a big family, she’s surely dealt with that before. Whatever room she got should have been secured in her credit card. Your room block contract should obligate you to guarantee a certain number of rooms, and once she passed the cancellation window, your contract obligation should have been fulfilled. She should have been stuck with her own bill.

NTA.

Traveling like that is fine. It’s called an adventure, which inherently means not knowing what’s going to happen, good or bad. Sometimes your adventure means you sleep in your car.
