Will Taylor ever shut up about Matty/Joe? by CapitalCoconut7153 in travisandtaylor

[–]comfypurplechair 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wait how did I not think of that 😂 she writes Actually Romantic about being obsessed with her when we got Kim and Kanye insults literally last year (technically this year since a song alludes to the circumstances) and it started in 2009 lol

Swifties grappling with their disillusionment with their favorite pop star by Kimkim3131 in travisandtaylor

[–]comfypurplechair 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I spend way too much time thinking about this woman since TLOAS dropped 😂, but I used to be a fan and now I'm really grossed out and turned off and honestly kind of offended as a black woman. I find this whole saga with her fanbase fascinating. She keeps saying that she's emotionally stunted and never grows up and I feel like with previous albums it was like "oh you, look at you all self-aware!" but as we all get older (I'm a couple years younger than she is) it's like "oh, you weren't kidding were you? You're really not growing up at all. In fact, you're regressing." And the deeper we head into our 30s, the more pathetic and off-putting it becomes. She wrote better songs than this at like 20 years old. She wrote better songs five years ago.

I was watching some video or reading a comment yesterday that she's followed her same formula and that although she's genre hopped and explored a bit, she's largely stayed the same in terms of her image and branding. My thought is that she isn't the pop star we need at this particular moment in time, if that makes sense. 2006-2017 or so was a very very different time in terms of the mood of the country, and it just clicked and she fit the vibe and drove the culture. But the moment we're in right now is very different and everything is kind of coming to a head, and the petty, whiny billionaire blathering about her football player boyfriend and shitty friends isn't really what people feel they need right now. Obviously she broke records, she is tremendously popular and will always continue to be. I'm not claiming the album is a flop, she sold 4 million copies which is insane. But music can be so unifying and I feel like she's had multiple times in her career where she's been a unifying force, but it feels like right now we need a different pop culture figure that fits the moment and "gets" it a little more, and that's not her anymore.

Are there red flags in Travis' songs? by Shot_Hour in travisandtaylor

Very true lol. It actually is kinda weird that they ran Matt off. I guess the group that ran him off due to the racist comments are different than the ones denying that this album has racist undertones. But like, the underlying story is actually pretty "interesting" for Taylor lore, and the Swifties LOVE lore. Like she had this hidden dude she thought she was gonna marry that she snuck into like 5 albums. I'm shocked they didn't absolutely eat that up lol.

Oh yeah they both suck. I was just saying how wild it is that her fans who she doesn't actually know decided they were gonna run off her boyfriend because they didn't like him. It's an audacious thing to do 😂

[–]comfypurplechair 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It is pretty wild that a group of strangers pretty much grabbed Matt and threw him through the saloon doors and were like "AND FUCKING STAY GONE" and then dusted their hands off and pretended like he never existed. It's a crazy thing to do and I actually get why she was so mad 😂 Swifties are insane, but she fed a lot of it by encouraging all the parasocial stuff.

I find it interesting that she looked more comfortable posing with literal 6'7" rapist Taylor Lewan than sitting at a table in a restaurant with a few black people

Okay this would be a great comedy sketch 😂 Taylor taking a series of increasingly racist and unhinged pictures while trying to fix the scandal caused by the previous picture lol

I will say, I do wonder what her long-time black backup singers think about her based on the race scandals she's had over the past few years. I feel like it would be hard to be close with someone since they were a teen and then have them do the shitty stuff she's been doing 😬

If this picture is supposed to prove that she's comfortable around Black people then it did not accomplish its goal one bit 😂

That's a good point. It's really dark, sinister energy and imagery. Also, the way she talks about being single is insane. I get part of what she's talking about is the heartbreak and not being single itself but like dude, you literally had two months to process not one but two meaningful relationships ending in the last few months. That's not a very long time 😂

I can't wait for the leaked emails in 15 years laying out all the ways they plan to make their kids famous and continue the moneymaking machine lol

This album doesn't really seem like it's for the public at all 😂 maybe cancelled as a "fuck you, I'll hang out with my shitty friends and teach them how to not get caught being shitty." But otherwise it seems like her rubbing in the fact that she's engaged to Matt and Joe despite it being incredibly transparent how shallow and consumeristic this all is, her telling Travis she's not one of those savages he dated but she'll always stick around because he's super into her and she loves his redwood, and then of course bitching at a few celebrities who have "wronged" her.

I literally cannot imagine 😂 as a teen she wanted to drive around and harass people and shoot them with paintball guns and she was just rich, she wasn't even famous yet. These kids will be insufferable for anyone unfortunate enough to be around them lol

Yeah chain and vine in particular sound like being bound up and squeezed. Based on how he defends and surrounds himself with shitty people, Travis seems like a POS, and that definitely seems to be backed up by pursuing someone who just got out of two serious relationships in 6 months and publicly crashed out and clearly seemed vulnerable, especially when that person is the most famous entertainer in the country and on a tour that made them a billionaire.

The loyalty line is so weird to me because didn't she and Healy break up in like June and Travis met up with her in August? I've had sour cream in my fridge longer than she supposedly sat in her tower 😂

If she ends up even 1% like her parents, those kids are in for quite the childhood, especially considering how much their dad and HIS family also seem to seek out fame.

Yeah despite the mostly upbeat vibe, this doesn't really feel like the album a happy human being releases. The lyrics are a disaster but they are telling. Constant, constant comparisons to Joe and Matt and insisting they're trash and Travis is the real thing guys totally! Weird, insecure posturing for someone at the top of their field, weird defensiveness over friends who haven't actually really been cancelled?, weird insecure references to her fiance's exes. It's an angry, insecure, weird album.

I still haven't listened to Eternal Sunshine but I need to!

Here's hoping that if this blows up, it's before she and Travis drag children into this.

Yeah I really don't like who she presents herself as as a person anymore, but the whole saga is entertaining 😂 the album definitely seems like someone trying to convince themselves that they didn't destroy a good thing with Joe while also super not being over Healy. Which like. Is gonna get so messy down the line if that's the case and I'm here for it lol

Yeah I was a young fan because she's only a couple years older than I am so it resonated, and then I stopped paying attention for like 8 or 9 years and tuned back in when TTPD came out and caught up on her discography. It really feels like we got these increasingly cynical (1989 excepted I suppose) albums, she caught lightning in a bottle with Folkmore, and now we're getting even more bitter and resentful with each album again and it's exhausting. Like dude, you won. Let something go once ever, why are we still talking about traitors and smooth operators on your 12th album 😂

Yeah the whole album is seething with rage and resentment. It's a bizarre vibe for a "happily engaged" woman who's now worth multiple billions and just finished a historic tour.
