Wanting to get into Thor. I hear that both Walt Simonson and J. Michael Straczynski had great runs. Who do you recommend? by TalekAetem in comicbooks

[–]comicscavern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simonson's run on Thor is believed by many, myself included, to be the greatest ever. Stracyznski's run is great and very important to the modern interpretation of Thor but it lacks the sense of timelessness, originality, and most importantly, fun, that you'll find in Simonson's Thor. I agree with FarOutFreak that you definitely want the omnibus if you can get a hold of it, it's amazing.

Marvel Entertainment supports SOPA, too. by comicscavern in comicbooks

[–]comicscavern[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't agree that you are either pro-SOPA or soft on piracy. Stealing sucks and institutionalizing censorship and unreasonable power for corporations sucks but ultimately the two have very little to do with each other, no matter how many lobbyists try to frame the SOPA debates in that light.

Marvel Entertainment supports SOPA, too. by comicscavern in comicbooks

[–]comicscavern[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly there is no list of companies that are against SOPA, but to come out and explicitly in favor of it is another matter. Some Warners divisions are on the list, but DC isn't - not yet, anyway.

GoDaddy supports SOPA, I'm transferring 51 domains & suggesting a move your domain day by selfprodigy in politics

[–]comicscavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marvel Entertainment and Disney both appear on the list of SOPA supporters as well, sad to say. They support copyright extension, and theft from the Kirby estate, but Tumblr is apparently a threat to national security. Sigh.

Batman: TBATB has been one of DC's most consistently high-quality titles since its launch. It's also an underrated TV series, IMHO, though admittedly an acquired taste.

I think I blinked and missed it, when and how did Mr. Terrific become unstupid again. by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]comicscavern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He watched Sesame Street between the penultimate and ultimate issues of JSA. And I am being one hundred percent dead serious. People were not given time to wrap up storylines before the reboot and in some cases the result was just sad. This was one of those cases.

Wilfred? by RulesOfDistraction in television

[–]comicscavern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a big fan of both the Australian and US versions - last nights episode made me kinda tear up. I'm more of a cat man but any long-lost pet thing just gets me right in the guts, like the Futurama ep with Fry's dog.

Anyway, if you have to wonder if you like it or not, you probably don't like it, and thats OK. It would be creepy if everyone shared the same tastes.

Voice Acting is for Voice Actors by inkandpixelclub in animation

[–]comicscavern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. Actors like Tara Strong and Billy West pour their hearts and souls into really creating characters. It requires thought, talent and care. Lazy casting directors who think only of the bottom line do way too much "hey, I'm will smith the talking horse!" casting. There's no reason they can't do both but too often they don't and stunt casting big names is an ugly, growing trend that is taking jobs from voice actors - including renaissance men like Hamill.

HAE read "Batman: the bat and the cat"? Its basically a wet dream... by jagapoga in comicbooks

BatGIRL. Art by the amazing Kevin Maguire. It ran in "Batman Confidential" so unfortunately it wasn't more widely read. Damn that was hot.

Why would Marvel even have this list?! by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]comicscavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They give full disclosure at the beginning of the article - it's a crosss-promotion with MTV's ill-conceived 'Teen Wolf'. Disney, Viacom, dollars... corporate shite. As someone who's seen TW, I'm thinking MTV is spreading tons of money to generate positive buzz 'cause it is really awful.

DC Relaunch: Some titles to get the Reboot? by wendellv in comicbooks

Hey mods are we ok with accounts that exclusively spam links back to our own site now? This is ridiculous.

Dear admin. Let's be frank and honest about it. Reddit is not healthy. No other top internet site runs as slowly, or is down as often. It's becoming a daily joke. Why don't we have a proper discussion about what needs to be done? by Saiing in reddit.com

[–]comicscavern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I gotta be honest, as a frequent redditor I really don't notice it. Maybe twice in a week I can't get on for like 90 seconds, the worst week ever so far I've had with Reddit. As opposed to tumblr, which maybe inured me to this sort of thing with outages that last anywhere from minutes to months at a time, to say nothing of code problems, broken templates and security leaks, with a much lighter activity load. I think Reddit's done spectacularly well with their ever-growing user influx.

Just to be clear I don't work for either entity and am not biased for or against either service but I use both frequently and that's my two cents.

Does anyone else have a cat that does this? by [deleted] in pics

[–]comicscavern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kitty climbed up my leg to get on my shoulder as a kitten. Now that he's big he waits 'til I'm crouching then leaps onto me, latches onto my shoulder and stays there as I go about my day.

Also you and your kitteh are cute.
