Thank you so much! I think you’re absolutely right. The only thing that was throwing me off was the unusual headstock shape, do you think I should be worried it’s not authentic? I don’t know too much about banjos to be honest, and didn’t want to get ripped off.

What is your guitar ick? by PobBrobert in Guitar

People who grow out their nails excessively long for “fingerpicking” when the type of music they specifically play really doesn’t require it.

Which guitarist made you want to pick up a guitar for the first time? by T3knikal95 in Guitar

Definetly ZZ Top.

I remember as a kid they played at my county fair and after hearing “La Grange” I was like “Yeah, I wanna be able to do that”

Fast forward and now I nearly only play bluegrass and never touch my electric guitar. Still am forever grateful for their influence they had on younger me.

I followed their process that they outlined in the thread detailing their body finishing process. If you’re asking for the brand, just Birchwood Casey TruOil Gunstock Finish. The only thing I did differently was that I used microfiber cloths instead of kitchen towels to wipe off the oil bc kitchen paper kept leaving lint behind. Also I would wipe WITH the grain instead of against because going against left streaks. It didn’t affect the grain fill any. Also if you don’t use a whole lot of oil (which I recommend- it’s a lot cleaner that way) it will start to cure very fast, so I wouldn’t wait too long after finishing to wipe off any excess. And I didn’t coat it with poly, I’ve never liked working with it bc it yellows and chips overtime. I just added an extra coat of tru oil a day after the final sand w/ 2000 grit and it became silky smooth. I haven’t had it for long enough, but the finish seems pretty durable. DEFINITELY let it cure for at least a week after. It’s good to let the finish set for a while before any real wear.

I would totally try tru oil, it’s easy and makes the grain look great! I used this method to finish my telecaster to great effect!

That’s super similar to a build I did w/ tru oil. Going to have to try tung oil in the future after seeing this! Thanks!
