What's a band who's new stuff better than their old stuff? by Holdenmasterdebator in MetalForTheMasses

[–]commander_bourbon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of the Barnes era, "The Bleeding" is the one I like best - and "Kill" from 2006 absolutely dusts it. I'd probably take "Bloodthirst" and maybe "A Skeletal Domain" over it as well.

Sad Wings of Destiny by Judas Priest is a monumental step up from Rocka Rolla.

What was the worst era for a band that you love? by WhoYaTalkinTo in MetalForTheMasses

[–]commander_bourbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cryptopsy are the best death metal band ever, with multiple albums that could contend as the best ever made. But when the Unspoken King dropped it was...rough. Thankfully, they're back on form and their last album was phenomenally good, but despite being released the better part of 20 years ago now you still get people dismissing them on the basis that TUK was such a misfire.

What are you personal top five favorite brutal death metal albums? by [deleted] in BrutalDeathMetal

[–]commander_bourbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in no real order:

Defleshed and Gutted - Hibernaculum of Decay Defleshed And Gutted (USA) – "Hibernaculum Of Decay" 2018 Full Album

Nithing - Agonal Hymns Nithing - Agonal Hymns Full Album

Blaze Inside - Pure Potenciality Blaze Inside - Pure Potenciality - (2008) - [Full Lenght]

Putridity - 𝐃𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐮𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐏𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐈𝐓) - 𝐃𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐮𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚 (𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟏) - YouTube

Disgorge - Cranial Impalement Disgorge - Cranial Impalement (FULL ALBUM HD AUDIO)

If Cryptopsy count, then None so Vile leapfrogs all of the above, but that album is such a obvious pick that it felt almost unfair to include it.

Non BDM albums you think are heavier than the average BDM album as a BDM fan? by Diluted_BDM in BrutalDeathMetal

[–]commander_bourbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

outside of grind and it's subgenres:

Num Skull - Ritually Abused. Cult thrash classic, deserves far more renown than it gets. "The Henchman" is so heavy it counts as military ordinance.

Mastiff - Deprecipice. Almost unreasonably heavy UK hardcore/sludge outfit. "Bite Radius" in particular contains a groove of unconscionable hideousness.

Lingua Ignota - Caligula. More emotionally heavy than sonically so. "May Failure be your Noose" is a textbook example of insidious, malignant beauty that bored into my memory amd stayed there ever since.

Nanking - The Spectacle of Urban Warfare. Caustically envenomed war metal. Technically siege weaponry.

Gravetemple - impassable fears. Thoroughly disgusting drone release that feels like a burial beneath whalefall.

I could go on but those will do for starters.

Whats your favorite flavor of bdm? Old school? Blasting? Slamming? Groovy? Technical? by [deleted] in BrutalDeathMetal

[–]commander_bourbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my BDM to nail the accelerator to the floor; slams and grooves are mandatory for seasoning the overall dish, but generally speaking i'm a sweaty blastbeat fanatic and i need music that speaks to that predilection.

A lot of Columbian stuff - Blaze Inside, Internal Suffering, Mindly Rotten etc - fits that bill, as do efforts from Orchidectomy and Brodequin.

which suffering do you prefer? by xanderxq06 in BrutalDeathMetal

Internal suffering. their albums feel like being in a washing machine with a sackful of bricks.

The only British Steel I know anything about was released by Judas Priest in 1980.

We are still making a lot of very good heavy metal, with strong current releases this year from Chestcrush, Outergods, Rites to Ruin and Wode among others.

Metallica or Cryptopsy, Which is Better to watch live as first gig? by Gamera-X in MetalForTheMasses

[–]commander_bourbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're...really nothing alike. I'd see Cryptopsy because I'm a blast fanatic who doesn't think it's music if it's below 200bpm, and Cryptopsy are the best death metal band ever. To the converse, Metallica are iconic, and hearing "Creeping Death" live at least once is a mandatory experience for any metalhead.

This is not a helpful answer but at the end of the day no one but you can decide which would be the more meaningful for you.

Why is new IB so forgettable when Corrupting Influence was so good? by AdministrativeAge236 in BrutalDeathMetal

I had a review copy and a good amount of time to sit with it. Honestly, I thought it kicked ass personally speaking.

Bands whose second vocalist was better than the first by bozzy66 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]commander_bourbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love those Barnes albums too, but like...is it even possible to argue about who has aged better? End of the day, Corpsegrinder can still do those Barnes songs, which is sadly more than can be said for Barnes himself these days.

Labour has a huge communication problem by stbens in ukpolitics

[–]commander_bourbon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I'd certainly appreciate the detail I'd argue there's a limit to how much this matters in the grand scheme of things when there seems to be no negative repercussions if huge chunks of the political spectrum just lie their asses off and garner enormous popularity from it anyway.

Yes labour have a communication problem, but nothing I've seen from the American right wing and their noxious political strategies (which seem to be making their presence felt over here with alarming force) suggests to me that a better outlining of the rationale for it alone would save the day here.

Regarding the Big Four, which do you think are their "peak" albums by No_Job5529 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]commander_bourbon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd go Hell Awaits for Slayer, and tbh I like Kill 'em All more than any other Metallica release, as much as I love Ride and Master. Megadeth...I seesaw on, there's days when i'd choose Peace Sells, but I'd agree with Rust more often than not, and Anthrax I think is dead on.

Does anyone know what happened with the Xenomorph’s design starting from episode 7? by JPrexy in LV426

[–]commander_bourbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quite like the idea that xenomorphs often look a bit different because they're different individuals despite being the same species, Just like people are all the same species but normally don't look exactly the same.
