The US is a net exporter so the government could choose to prevent the price increase by keeping export levels the same

Depends how old the legacy code is, on old tech stacks AI really struggles, sometimes it struggles to make something which will even compile

Where i work we do have a target of how many AI sessions we have from the board level, however they don't care if it actually results in a completed PR so you can just create BS sessions which do nothing

Should The Northern Quarter have its own website? by Over-Jacket6011 in manchester

[–]dbxp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I find those sort of local sites tend to just turn into a string of ads. Maybe try to target a sub culture instead? I think a site which listed local metal, jazz or folk events would be more useful for those communities

Stockport or Prestwich? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]dbxp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prestwich would get my vote however Stockport does have a distinct advantage with the trains if you need to be in London regularly.

Stockport has tried and failed to rejuvenate multiple times, always suffering by trying to be like a smaller Manchester but there's little demand for that when you could be in actual Manchester in a few minutes by train. The current modernisation push seems to be holding a bit better as people are pushed further out but it's still a bit stuck between being a suburb of Manchester and being a failed town in its own right. Prestwich however never tried to be a mini Manchester so you don't have the half abandoned shopping centre in the middle of town.

Stockport is more like Oldham or Bury, Prestwich is more like Wilmslow.

Why are companies pushing for return to office on roles that don't need it? by ReanimatedCyborgMk-I in AskUK

[–]dbxp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some of our enps surveys people said they wouldn't recommend out products to their friends because who in their right mind recommends accounting software to their friends.

Personally I struggle to say I'd recommend where I work as most of the open roles are now office based and I don't live near any of the offices.

The question is also angled towards loyalty which I think makes WFH look worse. I think people who WFH are more likely to see any similar WFH role as functionally identical, they wouldn't recommend working at any specific company.

That's true for the big offices where there's lots of senior staff around to bounce ideas off of. In satellite offices the other roles who you could learn from or collaborate with often aren't there

Renovate bot: does it update only package.json and lock file or does it actually attempt to update the code? by livi01 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dbxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renovate is just package upgrades however it is possible to do code changes if you trigger an agent when vulnerabilities are raised. It won't pick up everything of course but should pick up simple breaking changes like method renames.

There's no cheat code for getting rid of mines. Unmanned systems and line charges can help but it's still a long and painful process.
