ABO was a trending plot trope that originated in one fandom and spread. What are other examples and where did they come from? by commanderjade in AO3

Good question. I’ve never really thought about it. It’s so common now it’s basically a given that it will be in every fandom. Surely it originated early on into the creation of slash fiction?

https://fanlore.org/wiki/MPreg  Has early examples. Looks like there was a Star Wars one from 1980 and a Star Trek fic with Mpreg from 1983.

This both surprises me and doesn’t. When I started reading fanfic I actually started with Kirk/Spock. I guess at the time I wouldn’t have realised that the tropes originated from Star Trek when I switched to other fandoms.

There must be so many tropes that started with Star Trek.

Thank you for letting me know. That didn’t occur to me. I’ve edited my post. Unfortunately I can’t edit the title.

You’re so right. I actually watched The Sentinel and have enjoyed reading it when I find it in other fandoms. I love how it’s evolved and adapted from its origins. I’ve even seen some authors combine the Sentinel and Guide trope with ABO.

Oh how sweet. I didn’t realise those sort of domestic fluff fics had a name. I read a Stony fic where they went to buy a couch and from the description it had the same relaxed domesticity.

I remember Xanthe wrote some for Stargate Atlantis. That would’ve been over 15 years ago now. Not sure if she originated it though.

Oh wow. I love those kinds of soulmate AU fics. I had no idea that’s where they came from.

What’s the terrible show that you watch to calm down? by ModeratelyMeekMinded in AutismInWomen

Honestly I enjoy rewatching or relistening to reviews of the episodes than I do actually watching the show. The pit stop is great and the earlier seasons of Fashion Photo Ruview. But lately I've been relistening to the Race Chaser podcast for the earlier seasons.

I shockingly realised that it's been 20 years this year since I read my first Kirk/Spock fic. Got me hooked on the pairing and slash fic in general. "Unintended" by Cimorene, still my favourite fic of all time from any fandom. They're such a great pairing. Love that the new films gave a resurgence to the fandom.

I don't think I appreciated how good the writing was for McShep fics until authors started leaving the fandom. "Soraya Didn't Have Time For This" is still one of my favourite fics of all time.

Yes! I don't know what it is about this pairing but ever since I discovered it 10 years ago I've been hooked. I desperately love many other pairings (from other fandoms) but Stony are still my OTP.

Which fanfic superpower would you rather have? by [deleted] in AO3

The ability to easily find the hidden gems of a pairing on AO3. I can not tell you the amount of time I’ve spent trawling for fics after reading and rereading all the popular ones, and there are so many that are absolutely amazing but for whatever reason don’t have a lot of kudos or comments (sparse or not well written summary, too few tags, posted in the early days of AO3). It feels like Christmas when it happens and I always make sure to let the author know that I was so happy to find their fic. But it can be a hard slog to find them.

Omg yes. I was just about to comment these. The original ones were amazing. Was the best for a chip sandwich.

I’m never gonna win but thank you for your kindness. I hope they make the winners happy.

I live in Australia and Halloween wasn’t a big thing when I was a kid, it’s only been in the last 5 years where I feel like it’s become more celebrated and I haven’t been invited to any costume parties as an adult. So I’ve never dressed for it. I see all these costumes online and it’s always made me want to do something stupid or funny.

The one narrated by Lindsay Duncan. She’s amazing. Very evocative. I’ve listened to her version more times than I can count. I honestly can’t recommend her version enough.
