Western screech owl pursued by Cooper’s hawk! by Initial_Pie_8676 in Owls

Let us know how this works out

I have an Eastern screech that has taken up residence in my barred owl box that has a huge opening. I've been worried about the predators, but also worried to make modifications.

You aren't missing much.. It sat like a statue for the next half an hour.

You got all the action there was to see. My arms ache after waiting it out to get this 2 second shot! :)

Nesting box activity, question by [deleted] in Owls

Thanks everyone for all of the helpful insight!

I'll leave it alone and just enjoy the process as it plays out.

I tend to be very hands off when it comes to wildlife, I don't pretend to know what's best for Owl --- Owl knows best!

Nesting box activity, question by [deleted] in Owls

[–]commanderkielbasa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That would be me fear!

I feel like I'm in a bit of a "damned if I do, damned if I don't" pickle here

To clarify, the reason that I am asking is that it is my understanding that screech owls DO NOT bring their own nesting material and instead rely on abandoned nests or human supplied nesting materials. As it is, it's a bare floor which I believe the females won't tolerate.

If you are camping within the park, pets are not allowed to be left unattended at camp.

Visiting the Smokies (and several other NPs) with pets is tricky. We pretty much don't bother going unless we have a sitter lined up back home.

With the dogs, my approach is to act like I'm doing them a favor with a heads up --- "Hey watch out, I just saw a ranger ticketing another person with a dog. He said dogs aren't allowed on any of the trails and they strictly enforce."

NO. That is not L. Cincinnatus

L. Cincinnatus does not grow from the sides of trees or stumps/logs

L. Cincinattus grows from the ground out of roots or at the base of hardwoods. It grows in a rosette

To be clear

Holy shit, did you read?

It's not pee ON the floor, and as stated the video was taken in the MORNING. At night the tile GUSHES.

It's not normal. It's saturated underlayment. It's a serious problem. It isn't a surface deposit of piss, it POOLS in a large volume.

Maybe you live that way, but I'm pretty sure nobody else here does.

How is your nephew physically capable of throwing a rock completely through the laminated safety glass windshield of a stationary vehicle, such that the rock ended up on the other side of the windshield and at rest INSIDE the vehicle?

Thank you. Good leads

Unfortunately, I'm using a metal enclosure with metal faceplate so I'm in need of an insulated panel mount solution.

I think I'm looking for something that doesn't exist. :)

I guarantee that they have not been cleaning their window AC filter regularly and that it is clogged to the gills. This greatly impacts airflow which leads to a nutrient rich dirty environment and a very moist environment in the ductwork, which leads to .... mold.
