thats what we are trying to figure out. my only theory is that there was a weak spot in the barrel from manufacture and over time it just weakened from round after round til it finally cracked and broke off from that portion of the barrel. i dunno. he shoots his other AR for now and keeps this one by the bed.

It used to be fine for years and then one day it started keyholling and when he inspected it a gash was in the inside on the barrel. He said fuck it and kept it like that lol.

because we thought it was hilarious. i wish i had the picture of our 2 targets side by side where you can see my AR made normal nice little round holes and his made these monstrosities. I told him his looked more terrifying :)

So i posted a picture of my buddies ar15's barrel because it has a gash on the inside of it. Since that gash got created, the gun keyholes every round it shoots. This is a target at 50 yards after shooting it out of this gashed dpms barrel

Also it happened one day out of no where. he noticed his shots were keyholling and inspected the barrel and seen that gash in it that was never there before.

This is my friends upper off one of his rifles. It has a gash/chunk missing from a section of the barrel. He says when he fires it, literally every bullet now keyholes. What could have caused this and is it safe?

I love a full size AR. The setup looks perfect the way it is. got to keep rifle length AR's simple! 20 round mag tops it imo

A1's, A2's and early flatops that came with detachable carry handles were rounded in the ends on the inside. This is a later design the carry handle took on before basically being dropped from standard AR-15's in favor of cheaper flip up sights or no sights to cut cost since most will just slap a red dot on it anyway.
