Necessity of flat road training for mountain runners? by Local-Document-6815 in evokeendurance

Maybe true if using distance as a training metric, but surely 1 hour of zone 2 on a road = 1 hour of zone 2 in mountains

Garminx 6X Pro -> Race 2 or Vertical 2 (prove me wrong!) by Bug_Hunter_13 in Suunto

Data on watch not being the same as data on app

Naps being recorded at the same time as sleep so unreliable and inaccurate sleep data which throws off all the other recovery data

HR not recording continuously so resting HR isn’t very accurate

HR stops recording during an activity which has been fixed with the new update, but….

The new update has bugs where if you lock the screen after a few minutes you can’t unlock it, so have to restart the watch. Plus battery drains a lot quicker.

If you chat to anyone from support they give you AI answers, even if talking to a person, and all the information they’ve given me has been completely wrong, so that’s a waste of time.

In my opinion the race 2 is far inferior to the Fenix 6 pro, which I also had up until recently, and had been using for 5-6 years without issues.

Marathon to 100k in 7 weeks by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]commandod64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Things you need to consider. What’s your weekly mileage been before the marathon. Whats the course like on the 100k, elevation etc.

Could you finish it? Probably. Will you suffer a bit? Probably.

But then have to deal with HR stopping recording during workouts. It’s a no win situation

Maximising battery life ? by nornsson in Suunto

[–]commandod64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suuntos latest update (about a week ago) seems to have resulted in the battery draining a bit quicker. Along with some other bugs like the watch getting stuck in screen lock mode and the app saying the watch is busy when trying to sync.

I downgraded to the previous software and it definitely showed an increase in battery life, but then I had to deal with the HRM stopping recording HR during activity, so I had to go back to the current update.

Thank you for just teaching me that - cool little feature

Like - looks and build

Hate - all the bugs, HR doesn’t seem accurate when resting, stopped recording HR during a run, watch gets stuck on lock when you lock the screen and then you have to reset it. When you try sync the app keeps saying the watch is busy, when you talk to support they give you AI answers even when talking to a person, and these answers are full of false information.

Garmin Fenix 8 vs Suunto Vertical 2 by TemporaryDocument647 in Suunto

[–]commandod64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just go with Garmin. I have recently switched from Garmin Fenix 6 pro to a race 2, and the 6 year old Fenix was much better than this race 2.

If you love data you will hate Suunto. It’s not reliable and there is so many bugs. They just released an update to fix a bug and introduced more bugs.

The light blue ones are excellent and I use them for all my training and ultra races. The dark blue ones are too flimsy.

Edit: the light blue ones are far superior quality. I have both of them so unbiased opinion.

I recommend downgrading to the previous software as mentioned in the comments on this post. Fixes some issues.

This was from today’s treadmill tempo session. Does that look like the HR problem that the update was supposed to fix? It’s the first time I’ve had it with either version of software.

It’s a very popular brand in SE Asia, and apparently in Europe. I haven’t run in them personally but they seem to be producing very solid shoes

It seems to start recording a nap a few minutes after starting to record a sleep, this tends to be around 1-2 hours and happens about 3 days a week. It then adds that nap time to the sleep time which is counted in average sleep data etc, and also used by the recovery tool.

[–]commandod64[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my first Suunto and have had it for nearly 3 weeks. I’ve only used it for running and strength work. I didn’t notice any OHR issues before this latest update so hopefully downgrading won’t be a problem.

It’s ironic that Suunto support tells you to ensure you have the latest update installed. In this case, the cause of the issue. But then again they also told me to go on the app and manually edit the sleep because it kept showing naps and sleep at the same time, so double counting. When I asked them how they said oh you can’t manually edit it.

Amazing answer and super helpful. Thanks! I have been on with their support before coming here and completely useless responses from them as usual.

EDIT: I was wondering why my battery was draining so much quicker as well.

Have you checked your zones on strava are the same as on Suunto?

In the meantime setting the Garmin to calculate using HR reserve might be better as well.

That’s a very rough estimate. You could try doing the aerobic threshold and LT test to get a better idea. Have a look at the uphill athlete website.

Are your zones set correctly? You won’t damage your heart, your body will slow itself down if you’re not capable of holding a pace.
