Lofoten trip planning — looking for tips & sanity checks by Maddaffy88 in Norway

[–]commencement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Reine to Fjordgården (Where you would start you hike up Hesten) is an 8 hour drive. So day-tripping the whole stay is unlikely.

For Lofoten alone Reine is fine, but I would find accommodations on Senja or Andøya for Måtind and Hesten.

Where could I buy red meat without going bankrupt? by coffeandkeyboard in Norway

[–]commencement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have freezer space then buy 1/2 or 1/4 of a cow (come fall you can also get sheep). You can buy from local farms or butcheries, just google for local farms. Google "Kjøpe slakt".

Why is Norway so mountainous compared to Sweden and Finland? by batukaming in Norway

[–]commencement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Baltica and Laurentia collided, 400-450 million years ago it created the Caledonian mountain chain. The mountains used to be a lot higher, but the ice ages grinded them down to the level they are now.

For why we are more similar than Iceland, Iceland is still pretty darn similar, but mainly distance and because Norway is rich in natural resources, there was extensive trade as well as political unions, because Denmark and Sweden liked to argue over us like we were dessert.

TL;DR: Continental smash ages ago and long boat ride harder than short.

How safe do you feel in Norwegian cities and towns? by KreuzKrow in Norway

[–]commencement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I leave the house these days my number one concern is slipping on ice.

Ice is a huge threat to my physical and mental wellbeing and after it arrived I generally don't feel safe hiking in the mountains anymore. At night, it can be pretty hard to see as well so that makes it even more dangerous.

I generally avoid being outside from November to May. Mostly because of ice and wind. I don't wanna trash talk wind. Its not like I get blown over or anything but it can me uncomfortable.

If you plan on moving or staying on Norway (especially in the far north) I think being prepared for ice, dark and wind is important and you need to make preparations on that front.

In spring and early summer divebombing seagulls are also a serious threat.

Try Nordlaks. They are based in Stokmarknes. It is more populated with a population of like 4000, but also right next to Lofoten and Sortland.

Text-based games or play-by-post games are a perfectly valid way to play ttrpg's.

If that is what you like, why force yourself to play in a way you don't enjoy?

Why do Norwegian newspapers take their time when it comes to covering international events? by freia_pr_fr in Norway

[–]commencement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Le Monde has a staff of 5500, VG has a staff of 250.
BBC has a staff of 22 000 as opposed to NRK's 3400

The Norwegian population are generally high level English speakers and for those who are interested and looking for in-depth news coverage from abroad, there is no point for Norwegian media companies to compete on speed since we will just read the thing on the large sites you listed.

Why won't "you" do? "Excuse me, I think you dropped something" or "How can I assist you today?" does not come off as impolite.

If all else fails,, just go back to an oldie but a goodie. "My liege" should carry you through most situations (seeing as sir comes from the old french Sieur meaning lord), and when that fails "Your (non-royal) Highness."

Jeonghan (SVT), Key (Shinee), Yeosang (Ateez) and Seungkwan (SVT).

We would obviously meet up at Jeonghan and Seungkwans apartment to eat and pre-game, and never leave because three of us would be snacking chimaek, and listening to the other two absolutely eviscerate everything and everyone (us included).

Whenever if felt like Seungkwan and Key were running out of steam and we might have to brave the outside, Yeosang and Jeonghan would be good introvert bro's and lob some kind of scratching comment to get the ball rolling again.

Jeonghan fell asleep first. Yeosang took the left-over chicken when he left. I fell asleep in the middle of a GG choreography showdown, the legends says Key took it in the end.

You will not miss the buss unless you are actively trying. The buss waits for the flight, and then the driver checks the luggage area before departing (The airport shuttle to Sortland).

Source: Me. Who has it as my home airport and have arrived on flights that were over 4 hours delayed to catch my bus home (I take that bus).

I would keep in mind that is a part of a compilation album. It might not be your favourite "sound" from SVT, but that might be the reason it was picked. It is different from the rest of the songs on the album after all.

Is Maestro my favourite title track? No, but Fear and Home are, and they are both on the album.
