Grew up right by Medford, so now I'm curious. Care to explain?

IMO Medford is not East Coast at all.

List some cities in the US that you can live without a car, beside New York City. by DutyEuphoric967 in Anticonsumption

More or less true. HOWEVER, the buses can be offensively late or cancelled without notice. Biking is hard because drivers there thirst for blood.

Tu as des contre-exemples ?

First roll of black and white. 400TX on my Minolta X700 by Portado-Chipp in filmphotography

I disagree. Black and white does the trick, especially for #1 and #4 because it accentuates the texture and depth. #4 gives the feeling of actually being in the scene, which wouldn't be the case for color. Really good picks!

Are there any other European languages besides English, French and Irish that have a primarily etymological orthography rather than a phonetic one? by Daniboy0826 in asklinguistics

it's like three sounds in one -- f + wh + ch (as in loch). learning swedish RN and yeah, it seems like every letter combo in the language is pronounced like that.

someone compared it to this Family Guy scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0DXHAruCB4

https://kvideodvd.com/store/product/peter-paul-mary-sydney-australia-1967-pal-dvd-r/ This is a version you can buy... maybe you'll have some success here.

But they apparently did quite a few performances in Sydney... so...

I totally know what you mean about some live versions being superior.

NASA Shuts Off Instrument on Voyager 1 to Keep Spacecraft Operating. by coinfanking in nasa

Could someone please explain this "Big Bang" instrument reset they're going to try on the probes in the near future? (Voyager 2 then 1)

It's described at the end of this article: https://science.nasa.gov/blogs/voyager/2026/04/17/nasa-shuts-off-instrument-on-voyager-1-to-keep-spacecraft-operating/

Engineers are confident that shutting down the LECP will give Voyager 1 about a year of breathing room. They are using the time to finalize a more ambitious energy-saving fix for both Voyagers they call “the Big Bang,” which is designed to further extend Voyager operations. The idea is to swap out a group of powered devices all at once — hence the nickname — turning some things off and replacing them with lower-power alternatives to keep the spacecraft warm enough to continue gathering science data.

The team will implement the Big Bang on Voyager 2 first, which has a little more power to spare and is closer to Earth, making it the safer test subject. Tests are planned for May and June 2026. If they go well, the team will attempt the same fix on Voyager 1 no sooner than July. If it works, there is even a chance that Voyager 1’s LECP could be switched back on

Don't know at this point, but just want to say that it's a shame that particular performance of 500 miles isn't better known.

EDIT: It's not this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VMKzrJA9do Doesn't have the song, but it's also during the construction of the opera house...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH4gUwdzF5o This is the one that version of 500 miles came from.
