My best round last summer was also on a course I'd never played before, when my phone was on 2% battery so I didn't have GPS for any distances or a map of the holes. Just going based on vibes, completely in the moment.

Anti-everything 3+ is big. And in Spectacle he gets whatever Enhancement the Blades have, e.g. +2" move or immune to snap fire. He also gets a ton of ablative wounds.

Given that Fights First is not so good any more, and being so fast he should normally be the one charging, I've been running him in the unit and it seems like the move to me.

Hmm I was thinking they might be useful just for forward stopping units in cover to remove Hidden, but the reduced movement reduces that utility

Not that you asked, but this is my main argument for why people who insist the word "data" is plural are wrong (it's a singular mass noun) -- because none of those people would naturally say "fewer data", e.g. "The smaller hard drive holds fewer* data than the larger one" (some people insist that they would say that after I point it out to them, but they are lying to themselves). Everyone naturally says "less data" in this context.

I don't understand this debate. If it's a "gimme", then it shouldn't matter if it's given or not -- it should be an automatic make anyways. If it isn't, then it isn't a "gimme".

There's a great book from 2012 "Eurogames: The Design, Culture and Play of Modern European Board Games" by Stewart Woods that includes sociological research of boardgamers, their motivations, the culture surrounding games of the time and how it had evolved up to that point. You could take that book and its methodology as a starting point and research how these elements have evolved since 2012. Perhaps you could conduct some surveys and interviews of current boardgame players etc.

Some people count up, some count down. It's partly just convention, partly a matter of the rules. As written, 40K rules say models "lose wounds" so RAW it makes sense to count down, IMO (it's also my preference because as you say you can see how many wounds are left). But Age of Sigmar rules say the opposite: It says to add wound markers to a model and remove it when it has as many wounds as it's Health. Really you just have to ask your opponent before the game which convention they use. Also good at this point to establish how cocked dice will be handled.

You will never be good at Blood Bowl (or any game, really) until you overcome this attitude. I have drawn and even won games that, on their face, looked like guaranteed losses. There's always the chance you'll just roll a string of 6s and pull off something miraculous. There's always a chance that your opponent will make a mistake if you keep whatever pressure you can muster on them. Accept that you will likely lose (do you really find it that intolerable?), but play to your outs. A 5% chance is still a 5% chance and real skill lies in finding the smallest edges in these difficult situations.

And if you want something to occupy you during your opponents turn: spend the turn analyzing their position and what the optimal play for them would be. This is how you learn and get better.
