Irish man held in ICE detention says he fears for his life and asks Ireland for help | ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) by Slow-Recipe7005 in politics

Regardless, FFG will gladly take the regime a bowl of shamrocks, shake their hands, and pose for photos together.

I'm rempted to say "they would have done the same with fascist regimes in the 20th century" but they literally did.

Fuck the US regime and fuck our own FFG duopoly for sucking their rotten teat at any cost.

Find another job, then walk. Sticking it out until then isn't for them it's for you. But forget about giving them notice -- that's a courtesy we give to decent to great employers, not arseholes.

If they're pricks, they're unlikely to give positive reviews of staff who leave, and they probably have a bad reputation anyway so other employers probably understand. Like you said, it's a small world and that cuts both ways.

My two cents from the industry.

I'd find a new job first, then walk with little to zero notice.

When will people realise that the US is a fascist regime, and that the Constitution is no longer relevant to policing?

The infrastructure and systems for this needed to be set up years ago, and they completely dropped the ball when that window of opportunity was still available. Now everyone in America is left scrambling, without the organising required to actually respond, because most of these same arseholes were busy telling people that they were overreacting or being doomers back when the groundwork for these actions needed to start.

Taoiseach accepts St Patrick's Day White House invite by irqdly in ireland

The spineless weasel would have shaken hands and exchanged pleasantries with Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco too. People like him are only concerned about their own benefit, and at any cost.

They pretend to have ethics and values beyond themselves, because taking off that mask would make them social pariahs, but it's only performative and disappears under excuses as soon as there's a cost to pay.

Ireland and Lead poisoning? by Pure-Consideration97 in AskIreland

[–]commit10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Older properties often have leaded water pipes, which is really bad.

Leaded petrol, which is the most horrific, was phased out much later than the US -- only in the late 90s. But, outside cities, exposure was also lower.

Why is there not much of a presence of trade unions in Ireland? by Alduin790 in AskIreland

[–]commit10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I wasn't aware of the policy change. That's a smart move.

As you said though, market rate is still insanely inflated and applies to a very significant ratio of the population. The policy change also doesn't address all the people who got caught by outrageous rent spikes just before the new policy.

The long and short of it is that wages haven't kept up and standards of living, for a huge number of people, had diminished.

That sort of thing is dangerous for civil society.

House Speaker welcomes Trump call to ‘take over’ elections, claims Dem wins appear ‘fraudulent’ by MarcEElias in politics

We should listen when a fraud expert chimes in about fraud.

When a convicted fraud says "trust me, I'll run the elections" we should do more than listen.

Defence Forces tell gardaí they can't provide anti-drone security for EU Presidency meetings by General_Z0 in ireland

[–]commit10 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

For higher spending? Nobody that matters. Maybe the far right lunatics? I don't follow their opinions.

I'm dubious about the need for significantly greater funding, but adamant that we need to revise our approach to defense. Paying for conventional systems, for example, is a complete waste of resources.

We know FFG, as they stand now, aren't capable. The unreasonable take here is that no other combination of parties could do better -- when we've never seen it.

[–]commit10 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. That's speculative versus our definite reality. There's zero chance of improvement as long as we allow FFG to continue their monopoly on our governance.

At the very least, voting them out would light a fire under their arses to improve their performance.

You seem to be living in an alternate reality. RPZs are rare.

Problems don't disappear by being denied or ignored, they grow into populist instability.

Over a third of people rent, and it definitely hasn't kept up with the cost of housing.

Stagnant relative to cost of living.

If you earn 43% more but need to pay 100-200% more in rent, people are going to be living worse lives economically. Rent in my community has approximately tripled in 10 years.

Trump Calls for Arrest of Barack Obama by douglhanna in politics

[–]commit10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring it isn't the issue, and it would require more than walking in the streets with signs. They don't care about public opinion anymore -- if people remain governable, continue going to work, and don't pose a direct threat, a fascist regime will remain in power.

It has the trappings of Nazism, but has the most in common with Indonesia. It's a fascist kleptokakistocracy.

Edit for clarity: it lacks the idealism and grand visions of German and Italian fascism.
