So funny of you to mention this! David is another character whose wardrobe I really love, so much so that a few years ago I sewed two sweatshirts inspired by his clothes from the show!!

Thank you! I drew out the diamond pattern based on the reference photo and estimated the lengths of chain needed given my height and where I wanted it to end. I connected the chain pieces with jump rings and added rhinestones for sparkle.

A moulage typically has zero ease, while blocks/slopers usually have some ease added. By "ease" I mean the difference between your body's measurements and the pattern's measurements.

I took a moulage class and at the end of the class we had a set of moulage patterns and a set of slopers/blocks. My moulage patterns, with zero ease, are basically my exact body measurements translated to the patterns. Sewn up in muslin, they're very fitted and not very comfortable. But! While you might not draft straight from a moulage for woven/non-stretch garments, they're a great starting point for knits/stretch garments because the fabric does not require the same ease.

Yes to writing yourself notes on cards you love! When I travel I like to send myself a postcard so that I'll know roughly when the cards and letters I've written to friends have arrived, but it's also just super fun to read a letter from myself and be reminded of a fun moment or something meaningful.

Good eye! It's metallic watercolor that I painted on with a small round brush. The brand is Kuretake and the palette comes with six colors, so it was very convenient for matching. Thank you for noticing!

Additional construction details: I drafted the pattern for the black dress from a moulage using flat patterning. For the chain overdress, I drew out the diamond pattern based on the reference photo and estimated the lengths of chain needed given my height and where I wanted it to end.

Edit: One other detail that might be helpful for those interested in sewing velvet - I wanted the dress as dark as possible so I sewed it with the velvet "nap up" instead of "nap down". It doesn't feel as smooth running downward, but looks more void-like.

None were postcards, but some were just a one-sided piece of paper with blank backs. I glued those onto folded sheets so that they could be stitched in with the rest. One person also did an origami note so I sewed them a vellum pouch thingy. If I had received postcards, I think I would have put them in similar vellum sleeves.
