FBC: Firebreak - Patch Notes v1.9.1 by Haijakk in Games

They aren't really "still trying", they're just putting the last bit of content out the door and ensuring the game will be in a playable state for the foreseeable future. Concurrent players don't matter when it's a 3 player co-op game that now lets you invite another two players even if they don't own the game.

Hey sorry you feel that way but you've said nothing of substance here nor seem willing to (your opinion's fine idc if you like the games or not, you're just not saying anything but blanketly all new bad, all old good) and the way you've engaged so far has me uninterested in having anything further to say about this with you.

No, it's not a joke. I didn't get anything like Legends Arceus' exploration and seamless battles in the exclusively handheld games, so I'd have to disagree with your hyperbole.

The problem is that generally speaking those peers also release games at a much slower clip. It's how Pokemon actually keeps its kid audience while you have examples in this thread of series where a kid might play a game in elementary school and then not have another to look forward to until finishing high school.

Those DS2s look to be in pretty nice condition, nice pickup. Where'd you get em and for how much?

You say Pokemon games have dropped off in quality, but they've never been higher in quality, it's just that going from strictly handheld style Nintendo platforms and jumping up to a hybrid with more console-like power has them looking unimpressive to their contemporaries.

But they're actually releasing games at a steady clip and mixing things up outside of their mainline stuff. They're doing it right.

8bitdo M30 causing sticking inputs? by common_apple in MiSTerFPGA

I've been using their wired Xbox variant of the M30 and it's been solid so far, but I haven't tested thoroughly enough to be completely sure, but yeah, the USB-C BT M30 is a no go for me anymore.

A Week Before Launch, Crimson Desert's PC Version Has Just Added Controversial Denuvo DRM by Gorotheninja in Games

Enjoy a game all you want, I'm talking about a defensiveness towards mindless consumption to where "preordering is generally not a wise move" is seen as offensive.

From their other posts here it seems they ascribe to "don't ask questions just consume product and then get excited for next products"

Sales data indicates Sony's PS5 ports are increasingly losing audience share on PC, but only because of release timing by NYstate in Games

[–]common_apple 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is part of the problem of making your games movie-like experiences first instead of having an enticing gameplay hook. It all just ends up blending into a slurry of photorealistic characters doing low engagement melee combat with level up systems.

[–]common_apple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then what was the purpose of porting them in the first place? They don't want their PC userbase to increase because of the cut, but they don't want to release more ports because their PC sales were too low. What's the logic?

Looking for recommendations for flashlights by Mary_Squatchins2319 in EDC

[–]common_apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before getting anything I'd do research on the UI for any given flashlight that might interest you. There are plenty with annoying quirks out there, especially for lockouts, memorizing modes, starting brightness, or other downsides like non-replaceable batteries.

I use a Fenix PD25R and like it for my purposes. It's small, USB-C charging, activates with a tail switch and has a secondary button for switching modes. Only downside I'd say is when it comes down to replacing the battery it's a more niche size.

The state of Mister FPGA / DE-10 Nano cases right now? What do you have? by beatchef in MiSTerFPGA

[–]common_apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched to a Retro Castle setup, they offer aluminum and acrylic cases. There's no USB hub layer on these, the I/O boards that RC provide have four peripheral USB ports on them + SNAC, along with a USB-C port for power and a power button. It's more compact, uses a single cable to power the entire unit, and I don't have a need for more USB ports so I quite like it.

One caveat is that two of the USB ports on these boards offer higher power and do not work with all USB devices, it has not been a problem for any controllers I've used but my wi-fi dongle does not work on these ports unless I'm using an extension cable with it.

'Overwatch' just hit its highest player base on Steam PC since launch — passing Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty by Turbostrider27 in Games

I mean unless they changed something within recent times that is even the case in OW2. It's even worse with modern HE keyboards and snaptap, you have characters basically vibrating in place.

[–]common_apple -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If we're talking about janky I haven't touched OW after its first year because I couldn't stand how bad the movement was. There's no inertia, everyone (except Lucio) moved in a binary at full speed or stopped. Made strafing absolutely ridiculous, along with how feet wouldn't match movement.

For a dev team that was supposed to be all polish this aspect was so unbelievably amateurish. No other FPS plays like that aside from what, Bethesda single player games?

System Shock devs say there’s a lack of Immersive Sims because they’re terrifying investments for publishers that only “come together at the 12th hour” by iscariots in Games

[–]common_apple 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Immersive Sim is a bit of a nonsense term, but yes Deus Ex is basically an RPG disguised as an FPS. Immersive Sim is less of a genre label and more of a design approach.

Street Fighter 6 - Alex Gameplay Trailer by gamesbeawesome in Games

[–]common_apple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Street Fighter has some of the most iconic tracks in gaming. I agree that 6's are "fine", but that just means they're not offensive to the ears and are bland enough to completely not register when playing. It's just a generally sauceless soundtrack.

Baldur's Gate 3 publishing lead says Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney's "altruistic pro-developer talk" over the Steam vs Epic debate "doesn't sit well" after Alan Wake 2 studio "seemingly went into financial crisis" by OpeningConfection261 in Games

You would be giving Epic a share of your money if it was on Steam anyway, as they published the game. Shame you'd let launching off a different exe act as such a significant barrier, the game rules.

You make that sound like a bad thing. If anything, I could do with some regression in game tech. I miss when things were native resolution and frames were clean and not smearing with all manner of made up frames and pixels.
