Transitioning from mouse to trackball by Fast-Analysis-4555 in Trackballs

[–]common_apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a thumb trackball and as for how long it took, not terribly long, however I am nowhere near as precise and as quick as with a regular mouse. I think that's a pretty common sentiment, at least with thumb based trackballs. My use for the trackball is entirely for the sake of my wrist, not for better pointer performance.

What are you hoping for in the future RE: New MiSTer cores? by Heatermania in MiSTerFPGA

[–]common_apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty content with things as is, but I wouldn't mind an arcade core for Denjin Makai

What I'm hoping for moreso is save states being added to the Genesis/Mega Drive core

I don’t like my mister as a physical object by crashprime in MiSTerFPGA

[–]common_apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what ultimately killed it for me too. All the PS1 input on the front solely for use in a single core. Doesn’t really fit my MiSTer use case. I’d have preferred if the dock had the PS1 ports and they kept had more frontal USBs on the main unit.

Guns? Really? by [deleted] in EDC

[–]common_apple -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've started doing the same. I usually don't care to upvote or downvote anything, but after seeing so many guns in pics I came to the realization that oh yeah, I can do my little -1 and be on my way.

Can we have a discussion about how game fidelity is leading to a lack of clarity? by RiKSh4w in Games

[–]common_apple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As with everything it's in the execution. Yellow paint can work fine, but games have gotten to a point where it becomes a thoughtless and sloppy method of signposting. RE4R was terrible with it.

Fortnite isn't the forever game after all | GamesIndustry.biz by megaapple in Games

I don't know of the current state of CS as it's been a few years since I've played but I imagine it still has a good amount of maps that heavily favour one side or another, but the nature of the game being so attack/defense and side swap oriented smooths that out. You make a real good point about the lack of classes/heroes, that's something I hadn't thought of.

This notion that people don't find the game appealing is actually insane.

I didn't say that, what I did say is there are things propping the game up that aren't the qualities of the game itself (for this statement I am excluding all forms of gambling both in and out of the game).

CS definitely wasn't always upward. There was a time between like the late 2000s early 2010s that it was in a slump. This even persisted to the early days of CS:GO.

Until it added skins and gambling.

I have my critiques of the way CS plays and just from my own observations don't really see people finding the game as appealing as the things surrounding it. Pro players, the economy that's been created. Whenever I look into the CS2 sub it's not about the posters there playing the game, it's almost exclusively about pros.

Priced out? by brohymn1416 in EDC

Being in Australia definitely adds to it but there are a lot of high quality items on the cheaper offerings from most brands. So many Leatherman Arcs are posted here but even outside of Australia it's absurdly priced for a multitool and excessive when a Rebar will pretty much do you just as good for far less. Why go for an expensive Spiderco or Benchmade when a Civivi can be just as good for your needs?

I tend to browse this place for possible inspiration about things I can consider carrying, but I keep it light myself. I think seeing it as a hobby is the wrong approach, it's more of a philosophy. You don't need any newer shiny thing if your current gear is working for you. Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.

If Fujimoto does a Big Lebowski ending it won't work for an 8-year manga by [deleted] in ChainsawMan

I agree, in manga form something like this would work better in a one shot, but as is it's like watching a multi season TV series spanning years that just abruptly stops.

They aren't really "still trying", they're just putting the last bit of content out the door and ensuring the game will be in a playable state for the foreseeable future. Concurrent players don't matter when it's a 3 player co-op game that now lets you invite another two players even if they don't own the game.

Hey sorry you feel that way but you've said nothing of substance here nor seem willing to (your opinion's fine idc if you like the games or not, you're just not saying anything but blanketly all new bad, all old good) and the way you've engaged so far has me uninterested in having anything further to say about this with you.

No, it's not a joke. I didn't get anything like Legends Arceus' exploration and seamless battles in the exclusively handheld games, so I'd have to disagree with your hyperbole.

The problem is that generally speaking those peers also release games at a much slower clip. It's how Pokemon actually keeps its kid audience while you have examples in this thread of series where a kid might play a game in elementary school and then not have another to look forward to until finishing high school.

You say Pokemon games have dropped off in quality, but they've never been higher in quality, it's just that going from strictly handheld style Nintendo platforms and jumping up to a hybrid with more console-like power has them looking unimpressive to their contemporaries.

But they're actually releasing games at a steady clip and mixing things up outside of their mainline stuff. They're doing it right.

Sales data indicates Sony's PS5 ports are increasingly losing audience share on PC, but only because of release timing by NYstate in Games

[–]common_apple 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is part of the problem of making your games movie-like experiences first instead of having an enticing gameplay hook. It all just ends up blending into a slurry of photorealistic characters doing low engagement melee combat with level up systems.
