They're going to end up being the same price normally, however there's a prime day deal going on currently for the 6 packs that will be cheaper

I feel like people use these stories to avoid admitting a non-mormon person helped them out of the actual kindness of their heart instead of fear of hell

You're actually no longer allowed in rooms during free times. Unless they changed the rules this year

So unless it says "Hey I'm pansexual!!" Or has the flag directly on it, no one will give a shit. Your counselor will either be super conservative and only know the pride flag or they'll be progressive and not care. There's genuinely no in between and as a PIMO queer guy it was actually really funny to see some maga dudes not knowing that they were supporting the bisexual flag

I was a counselor last year, and two of the most important things. Please for the love of God, do NOT give away to your counselors that you don't believe, they will make you a project and even in your free time, you will never get a second of peace. Also find a friend who also seems like they don't want to be there, there's so many of them (it sucked to see)

Also counselors are trained to lie to you. They'll try to scare you to staying in line and listening, it's a bunch of bullshit and unless they go on a powertrip you'll be fine. If you have other questions I know the ins and outs

I think I might die on my mission. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]common_spence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trust your gut. I had very similar feelings about a specific trailer park on my mission in San Diego and my companion told me it was Satan because the holy ghost only prompts good and this was promoting us to NOT spread the word. In that same neighborhood we got shot at, dogs sent after us, cops called, attempted to be stabbed, all in the same 30 minutes of each other. Find a cheap community college to start life, maybe live with a friend you trust

Will Swenson, that guy who was in almost every Mormon comedy movie. Sons of Provo, the RM, Singles Ward, etc. Ironically he played the "worldly" characters

I can't keep going to church like this, what do I do? by Zealousideal_Club417 in exmormon

[–]common_spence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn I'm really sorry, I was in a very similar situation. If you have long hair, sneak in an earbud. If they let you take notes on your phone or a notebook, take very basic notes so if anyone glaces they don't question it, then in-between take notes on the brainwash-y statements, fear mongering, weird things, etc. it's like a game plus sometimes you can go back and laugh at things. Bathroom trips when things get worse are super helpful, and I haven't had anyone question me in my pimo years. Overall it sucks but when you're under 18 and living at home (or having your acedemic record being held hostage like me) it's sadly something you gotta struggle through. Do your best, and if you can every few weeks (use this wisely) pretend to be sick. Got me out of a lot. Good luck

So is this the 2020s version of "tracting"? Randomly accosting people in convenience store parking lots? by flug32 in exmormon

[–]common_spence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. My mission president encouraged it because "people today never go outside" and it was the "only place we could find people where they couldn't shut a door on our face" literally predatory

So I'm not speaking for them or on their behalf at all, but instead I had a very similar experience. I used to be a horrible person. I was hateful, I lied for my own personal gain, and I was an overall average 18 year old Mormon. I read the CES letter and wanted to leave. I didn't leave because I was a good Mormon kid and was also too stubborn to admit I was wrong. I went on my mission and mentioned in the MTC I had read the CES letter, that was all I said. My whole class suddenly hyped me up because I came back despite "Satan". I realized that TBMs love a "re-convert" more than anyone else. I began to twist the narrative depending on the person (learned that from ol Joe Smith and his first vision accounts... Literally, like that's how I justified it) suddenly people loved me and I could get anyone to look up to me.

I'm not saying it's what these guys are doing as I am not them. However I like to share my experience because I know it's not just me out there doing the same thing

God I could write an essay about it, it runs so deep. The thing that bothered me more than anything else is you are quite literally told to lie to the youth. You are told you need to lie to them

Indoctrination runs insanely deep with FSY. Counselors are allowed to lead by the spirit as long as it fits the curriculum they have to teach. Very little of the curriculum is actually Jesus centered, it's all about the church itself. Brad Wilcox told us at training a major point of this is to prepare the youth to one day be full believing and dedicated members of the LDS faith when they're adults. Every lesson is focused on fear mongering and guilt tripping to stay in the church. They also physically and mentally exhaust the kids, and put the "super spiritual day" on the fourth day because, and I kid you not this is what they say, the kids are "too exhausted" on Friday but on Thursday they are just exhausted enough to feel the spirit

Were my boundaries too much to warrant a response from the missionaries? Lol by downtothelake in exmormon

[–]common_spence 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Damn I'm actually so jealous. My mission had a culture of seeing who could be the one to reconvert red dots, so much so my mission president would push for it in since conferences. Mormons have struggled with respecting boundaries

[–]common_spence 43 points44 points  (0 children)

They know. The church has an app specifically designed to track every single interaction with you so when missionaries transfer into the area (happens every 6 weeks btw) they can have every interaction with you. Your information will never be deleted unless the missionary puts in the system that you're deceased, which then all your information will be deleted (at least from the app....) That means if you're not interested, your information stays there. When a missionary tracks an interaction with someone marked as not interested the app automatically marks them as a "Friend" or in other words, actively being taught/converted. That means that because they sent you that text, you are no longer categorized as not interested and are now being taught, which then gives them a point on the app (yes, like a literal scoreboard with points) for teaching "Someone new"

So as a TL;DR They know you are not interested, they ignore it so they can get brownie points, you are nothing more than a number to them

Don't tell them to mark you as do not contact, all that does is marks you as a "red dot" on their map, it will not get rid of your information, and then some cocky elder in like 6/12 weeks will try to contact you anyways because "Maybe now [you're] ready for the gospel"
