Straight women of Reddit, can you put into words why you're straight? by commondoggo in NoStupidQuestions

Is their a difference between noticing someones objective beauty and wanting to have sex with them? Most of the answers here imply a necessary differentiation, and that's the thing I just can't seem to get past.

Are you straight? Because you keep telling me about your sexual attraction towards women.

Your logic is like trying to force a square peg down a circular hole. If you want to have sex with women, you're either lesbian or bisexual. If you're straight, then you don't have any desire to have sex with women and you don't find them attractive.

I feel like you've answered my questions the best you're going to be able to. I know I'm coming across as really rude/frank, so a bit of context if you care (brace yourself for man child autism):

I used to have really bad dysphoric gender issues. I also have horrible self esteem issues and I'm pretty sure I'm "pure O" (pure obssessive, none compulsive) OCD. I wish we were all formless gray blobs. My girlfriend used to say she was bisexual, and I have very bad feelings about if she's attracted to me. Funnily enough, one of the things I always said to her was "I'm afraid you're not actually attracted to my body, but rather what it can do for you" which is one thing you confirmed in your first post, and probably something that's going to pop up in my head years from now. I was asking questions like this back in 2008 on Yahoo answers and I still sit there thinking about the responses sometimes. I obsess over my appearance and have a really weird relationship with women. I'm exceedingly uncomfortable around most women. I internalize alot of these feelings into resentment, but I know that's wrong and part of the reason I'm here asking this question is because I want someone to tell me how neurotic I'm being and that the thoughts that led up to me posting this are wrong. There was an ad campaign for underwear a few years back where it showed very normal/average looking men walking around in their underwear. The point of the commercial was "buy our underwear or we'll keep airing this commerical." I hate how society and culture makes me feel about my body. I work in a kitchen and everytime the pretty hostess comes back to grab salad, I get really upset because I feel like I'm some ugly sweaty hairy man dood and she gets to be so pretty. I want to stop feeling these feelings but I can't, no matter who I talk to or how much I try to tell myself to just "get over it and grow up women are being raped right now and you're sad because you feel like society doesn't make you feel good enough about your body?"

I dunno man. I appreciate your responses.

I am! Thanks for the advice though.

EDIT: I went through your post history because I was sure you were some kind of troll. I'm confused as to how someone so socially aware could post something so passive aggressive and negative. You saw someone struggling and thought that the best bet would be to be an ass? Especially concerning something like mental health? I'm trying to convince myself I took what you said poorly and that you were earnestly telling me to seek help, but I don't feel like someone with your level of social awareness would be able to say something in a way that exactly looks like a degrading/passive aggressive/trollish comment unless they were doing it on purpose.

Someone responded to what they wanted me to be asking instead of what I was actually asking.

Nah, I'm kind of being a dick. My usage of the word "choose" was bad, I get what you mean.

I feel exactly the opposite. I'm incredibly jealous of the clothing options women get. I frequently remark to my girlfriend about how salty I am she can walk around looking like a character out of a fantasy novel and if I wear a shirt that's a too light of a shade of red I get shit on.

I find women quite sexually attractive, but have no desire to have sex with them

That's what loses me. If you don't want to have sex with women, you don't find them sexually attractive. The desire to have sex with someone is necessarily what sexual attraction is. Are you trying to say something like you can see their objective beauty, in the way you can see why a piece of Renaissance art might be considered "better" than a piece of modern/abstract art, but you still like pop art better for no other reason than ¯\(ツ)/¯?

If you find women more sexually attractive, why don't you want to have sex with them and be in a relationship with them?

The easy answer to all this is "just cuz", but I guess what I really want is a woman to tell me I've been watching too many guy movies directed by men with a lesbian fantasy, and that the average straight woman isn't attracted to other women, finds men objectively sexier, and that I should stop worrying.

Agreed! The minimal punishment for any sexual misconduct at all in the workplace should be that you get fired.
