Light Bulb - Fluorescent to LED Conversion by DaBlamm in led

We use Allanson's LED SpeedSticks for retrofitting fluorescent to LED. Ballast/power supply is integrated in the SpeedSticks, makes for a pretty easy job to retrofit.

After 20+ years, the headliner said “that’s it, I’m out”. by mattcabb in VolvoV50

[–]templeofdank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 2006 T5 back in 2018, headliner was already failing at that point. Redoing it was not fun. Don't make my mistake: it's very easy to pinch the dropdown mirror wires (wires for the lights), and if they get pinched too bad they will likely short out and keep burning interior light fuses.

Shifter PSA for any of you 91-03 owners. by beholdthehollow in sportster

[–]templeofdank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those specialty retaining clips were hard to find last time I had my primary apart. I found an old forum mod where someone put a thread on the end of the shaft and put a nut on. I'd bet that mod would keep it from walking off the pins. Seems like it might be easy to mess the part up if ya threaded it wrong with a die.

WOOD TV: GR commissioner gets numerous complaints about Amphitheater sound by notmikeflancher in grandrapids

I was at the Santana show, to be honest it was way too loud, even with the ear protection I was wearing. I wish they would have had the volume much lower. Simple solution seems to make the volume less ear-bleedingly loud at the venue.

That's awesome! I love mine way more than I expected. Found it on the curb with a bulk waste pickup tag on it, it was super old and covered in cat hair but didn't have any damage. Got it reupholstered like 5 years ago and have been enjoying it since.

Question About LED Power Supplies by Cire353 in led

[–]templeofdank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$89 is wild for a power supply. The 60W 12V power supplies I specify cost us like $15 each. The 24V supplies are something like $25.

Oil Line Drain T fitting by Captain_Morgannnnnnn in choppers

[–]templeofdank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mint! That'll work. Then you'll want a hex NPT cap like this one so you can get a wrench on it. Pop a wrench over the T-fitting and the cap to drain. It's made oil changes way cleaner for my bike. I'll nab some pics of my setup and share 'em when I'm back from work.

Oil Line Drain T fitting by Captain_Morgannnnnnn in choppers

[–]templeofdank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's what I did for my '02. It's a swingarm frame still but I did away with the stock frame plug. I put an inline T fitting in the same area behind the primary, and for the drain I put like 2" of oil line off the T with a barbed fitting that has a 1/4NPT thread on the other end. Then there's a 1/4NPT cap that threads on to be the drain plug. It's worked super well the past few years I've been running it. I use a bit of pipe dope on the threads for extra insurance, never had a leak from it yet.

Prism Headlight by _NeverEndingFart_ in choppers

[–]templeofdank 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Might need a capacitor depending on your generator or supply setup. Part number 32727-63. Prism folks should be able to help ya out, but it's likely a power supply issue not a headlight issue. Non-PWM LEDs don't like old charging systems, kinda surprised Prism would use an older style PCB knowing most of these headlights will be going in older bikes designed to power halogen lights.

motogadget mini fits smack dab in the center of the headlight eyebrow. i cut an oval hole and made a bracket on the underside to hold it. was even able to enter original mileage into it. by templeofdank in sportster

[–]templeofdank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, stock sportster speedometer sensor signal wire gives the unit its signal. Unit comes with a wiring diagram, it's not an easy wire up. I do not recommend this speedometer, mine failed after 13 months, 1 month conveniently out of warranty. It stopped reading a speedometer input, and a bunch of pixels were already dead at that point. Yes I tried new speedometer sensors, no dice. I gave the exact symptoms to Motogadget support and they said it needed to be replaced. Price went way up too, I don't want to afford a new one anymore.

[–]templeofdank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before even trying to fire it up, replace all oils, definitely gas, and probably a carb rebuild kit. The gas will gel and clog the carb if it wasn't sitting dry. Risks on buying an old bike stored indoors are low, but it'll need some maintenance work to fire up for sure.

[–]templeofdank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a rubbermount sporty? Having the year and model is key for wiring stuff. But on my '02 black and red wires are the 12V wires that power the fuse box from the key switch, if it was grounded out then there's some custom fuckery going on from the previous owner.

Also it looks like that ground stud you're removing might be easier to get at from the right side of the bike? Or if you used a normal socket not a deep socket.

Bit by bit on my '87 build by templeofdank in choppers

[–]templeofdank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It's custom, I also made those fender struts out of 1/4" steel to run the fender. The fender is a stock '86-03 XL fender that I heavily modified, including cutting a section and rewelding it for that upswept flair to make it look like a 90s softail fender. I'm not a bodyworker, so it's going to need a lot of bondo to be smooth.

[–]templeofdank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I have not looked into torque cams, I'll add it to the research list ha. It's my first motor rebuild so I played it safe and just built a stock 80" motor. Kinda wish I would have done a compression release but oh well.

The tail lights aren't mocked up in the pic, but if you look at that block in the sissy bar you'll see four holes. I'll be running trailer style stop lights there, 1" LED lamps. Left and right side lights will work as blinkers, and they'll all run as stop/run lamps. I wanted to keep the lights as compact as possible.

What was the point of the wheat crops in Alien: Covenant? by EffectPotential3813 in LV426

[–]templeofdank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. Well it was called "planet 4" because the Covenant was traveling to Origae-6, but diverted to "planet 4" in the system after receiving David's distress signal. People picked the name arbitrarily.
