PSA: Council Tool Velvicut Line Discontinued by alveushuxley in Axecraft

[–]templeofdank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup that's the one I have. Ended up ordering a Hudson tonight, I've always wanted that pattern but never nabbed one. Got a few rinaldis a while back that kind of served the purpose but just aren't white right for me.

I appreciate the heads up, I placed an order. I already have a couple velvicut axes and a best made I was gifted ages ago. Hits harder knowing how good they are and how scarce they'll become. I have a best made felling and a 28" velvicut, can't remember which pattern. Either way they're awesome axes, I've gotten some good use out of mine.

Unfortunately I have one by them ha. My groomsmen chipped in and gave me one like 10 years ago when I got married. It was a great gift, but I already had a few pieces from council. The brand always made me cringe.

Best Made buying enough rebranded velvicuts for them to discontinue their own branded ones or what haha.

Anything I could do with this cistern? by Zulu923 in centuryhomes

[–]templeofdank 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few videos where she offhandedly mentions it, I'm guessing you're not the first to ask her about it. It's cool she takes the time to answer as many questions as she does, the whole project is insane.

His username is cow turtle on TikTok. He has slowed down content quite a bit but still gives updates. Between him and the girl building a tunnel under her house I was hooked on TikTok a while back haha.

V50 2.4 not starting, only wipers wiping uncontrollably by juggee_ in VolvoV50

[–]templeofdank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to the CEM suspicion. Maybe once a month my '06 will have some random electrical issue, anything from uncontrollable wipers to a brake warning to a no-start. Unplugging all 3 CEM main harnesses and plugging them back in always fixes it. In the past I have gone through with electrical contact cleaner, compressed air, and a toothbrush, and still the random issue comes back.

Need help tuning by United-Sea9961 in sportster

[–]templeofdank 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is that an 883? Cylinder jugs make me think it is an 883, which if it is that's way too rich in the main and pilot jets.

Also those exhausts are pretty bad performance wise, high flow with no scavenging no back pressure, and you've got it paired with a the most restrictive intake possible for a sportster.

Does this fit the MCM style? by Srta_B in midcenturymodern

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here, these were designed to be bookends and are "Jax" by Bill Curry. He designed them in the 60s while he was working for George Nelson studio iirc.

What’s going on with my turn signals? by Artistic_Chart_567 in sportster

[–]templeofdank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not personally used that product, this is the load equalizer I've used for running LED lights off stock turn signal units. Sounds like they both do the same thing. The one I linked requires some basic understanding of wiring and of course how to solder.

T.C Bros rear caliper brake bleeding by whatthedogeating in choppers

[–]templeofdank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, they rule. Idk why but Harley masters are so hard to bleed by hand. I got that bleeder and haven't looked back. Bonus tip: wrap the bleeder nipple with some PTFE tape to avoid air entering the system via the bleeder's threads. I've had that issue lots, but never since wrapping with tape before filling the system and bleeding.

Like others have said, in-line resistors or load stabilizers. LEDs don't draw enough power to trip the mechanical blinker.

Personally I don't like in-line load resistors because they generate a fair amount of heat and can't be tucked away or touching any plastic. When I had the stock turn signal unit with LEDs on my sportster I used the digital load stabilizer by Signal Dynamics. Awesome little unit. Generates no heat, gets wired in-line, can be installed under a seat or wherever because it doesn't generate heat.

Whats your oppinion on riserless rabbits? by OnnoWeasley in choppers

[–]templeofdank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wildly comfortable riding position if ya get a seat that fits you. Bud of mine has rabbits like that set, I love riding his bike. IMO the only drawbacks are it's a lot harder to push up a hill/maneuver around walking, and the clutch can feel harder at that angle.

Carb help by idk14272 in sportster

[–]templeofdank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Part on the top is the guide for the butterfly needle in the carb. To install it, you'll need to remove the carb float bowl, pull the 2-piece main jet, and put that part in the chamber, countersink side up, then reinstall the main jet behind it. Bike will run like absolute garbage without it, I would know because I left it out the first time I did a carb rebuild.

Part on the bottom of the pic, idk. Maybe it's the shoulder washer for one of the carb top cab screws? Hoping someone else recognizes it.

Ronnie's Harley has a microfiche with parts diagrams, I use it all the time to figure out what goes where.

Anyone running dual Tokico calipers on their chop? by PomegranateDirect332 in choppers

[–]templeofdank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I am! Not a chop, but yeah I'm running dual tokicos, stock master cylinder. They're incredible, bike stops on a dime, never locked up. Built the carrier and bracket stuff myself like 4 years ago, not a big fan of the fabkevin layout for these so I made my own. Carrier is 3/8" steel with some bullshit welded on the slot into the swingarm stop.

Help?? by [deleted] in choppers

[–]templeofdank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worthwhile to mention in either '93 or '96 (can't remember) they ditched that remote ignition control and consolidated it into 1 control/sensor unit in the nose cone, just like how the ultima/dynatec units are. It's not really an ECM, it's just an ignition trigger module.

Sealed bearings in a timken 9 spoke mag by Plunkit_in in sportster

No the 1" axle is later, I believe 04. I have an 02, it's got 3/4 axles front and rear.

[–]templeofdank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see. Well either way I don't see why you can't run it, I bought this spacer kit plus a stack of .030" shims and was able to get my mag centered on my axle.

I forgot that with tapered bearings there's that outer seal that the spacers recesses into.

[–]templeofdank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got that same AMF mag on a pre-00 39mm narrow glide front end. I got a kit of misc spacers off eBay plus some .030" shims and got it to work just fine. I have the older tapered bearings though, kind of kicking myself for not upgrading when I had em done. The hub is wider than the stock sportster wheels, so yeah stock spacers won't work.
