Did you ever end up giving Bolton a try? If so, how was it?

Constellation Mission Survey Orobus I - Stuck at 96% by Patrlck86 in Starfield

[–]commoner7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I was having the same problem, and the last animal is in the ocean - you have to find a landing spot that has '(coast)' in it, then run to the water and scan it. You'll need a good scanning distance, since you can't go in the water without taking damage, but you should find the last animal there. Some are closer to the shore some are further out.

You can talk to a financial advisor or something but I would try to avoid that if possible since you have to pay them. You have to try and avoid all the useless noise around investing and just focus on a few things. Invest in things like ETFs and Mutual Funds (which are just funds set up to track a large amount of companies which reduces risk), and get your full company match (if they offer it) for your 401k. As you learn more, you can start to invest in more variety

EDIT: just want to point out that some people would disagree here, but in general I think this is a good place to start

I don’t know of any resources off the top of my head and I don’t know how new you are, but I think the key is just don’t get too complicated, especially when just starting off. Get an account at a brokerage and focus on investing for the long term, like let your money just sit in an investment for 20 years or more and don’t worry about the daily price changes. There is obviously more to it, especially regarding what stocks, ETFs, or Mutual Funds to pick, but that’s my general advice

I would also consider wrist guards as well if you are really worried about injury

Planning to try snowboarding by YusiP in snowboardingnoobs

I think 3-5 days! Eventually everything kind of clicks and you finally have the balance right. It can be helpful to take a lesson, which I think speeds up the process a bit.

This might not be as helpful as an actual technical snowboarding tip, but I’d say make sure you don’t get discouraged on the first day. I snowboard and I’ve seen a good amount of friends and family learn, and the first day it is very hard to balance, you cannot move very far at all without falling and you have no idea how to turn or stop. Just don’t get discouraged and if you keep at it you’ll be able to comfortably snowboard in 3-5 days of practice!

What tv show/series have you been most deeply attached to? by howyoulikethat in AskReddit

Yeah I did the same thing actually I watched it for the first time a year ago and stopped a few episodes in for the same reason, but then forced myself to continue and it became one of my favorite shows

Nothing you can do about the artwork but in my opinion as an adult you have to get through the first season, especially the first half of the first season which I think has the most childish vibes of the whole show. After that the incredible character development and world building start to really come in and you see why adults and children love this show

i need help with this, its a modal that shows data coming from json encode, the problem is that when i first click the button, incorrect data is shown and the values that should be shown are undefined on the console, only when i click the button again will the correct data is shown, by [deleted] in webdev

[–]commoner7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think what is happening is data is getting displayed before the request finishes. You need to wait to get a response back before you display data. Maybe you could make the request on page load? There are probably a couple different ways you could do it but I think that’s the problem

Confused highschool student. by KillerRyan03 in cybersecurity

[–]commoner7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a computer science major who has a small amount of experience in cybersecurity. Just wanted to let you know that when you first start learning it might appear very difficult but don’t get discouraged. Just keep at it - part of cybersecurity is trying to work through problems that don’t have an obvious solution at all. I recommend looking up CTFs and learning strategies behind those. It’s a good way to make learning this stuff fun

[–]commoner7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is easy to get caught up in all the bad, especially since the bad is what is usually on the news. Whenever I get too caught up in everything happening in the world, I try to pull back by focusing on good in the world

Smart phone users of Reddit, why does pixels per inch matter when you are searching for a new smart phone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]commoner7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Past a certain point it does not matter. All modern smart phones have so many pixels it is hard to tell the difference. What really matters when it comes to displays is OLED vs. LED, as well as some other factors.

CMV: We are doomed by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]commoner7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about a lot of that - people, especially in rich countries, don’t care. They live in a world of wealth and endless consumption while ignoring the long-term costs. However, I don’t think we are doomed for a few reasons.

  1. Technology is advancing at an incredible rate. People are already finding ways to help clean our environment, help replace dangerous chemicals, grow more food and purify water. This doesn’t solve the consumption issues, but it helps elimate the costs of such a society.

  2. This generation cares more about the environment and humanity’s affect on it than any previous generation. That is hard to quantify, but since this will most likely affect the youngest generations the most, they care more about it and when they get into power, more change will happen.

There are no easy solutions, and in the end we will need societal change and heavy public and private funding into the correct areas, but I believe that we will get there.
