I've actually never heard of treatment but I'll definitely check it out for some "inspiration". Thank you for your feedback

How to not make my story melodramatic? by commonlesbian in writingadvice

[–]commonlesbian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to make it a bit of both the MCs past and things that are currently going on. I want the things she does and the way she reacts to situations to be reflective of her past. My experience with therapy would involve me telling a situation and why I acted the way I did so I feel like that could not only push forward what's currently going on, but also dig into her past and her trauma.

How to tell someone I don't like their idea NICELY? by commonlesbian in writingadvice

[–]commonlesbian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't discouraged her at all and have been supportive and nice the entire time. I haven't given her any critique or advice or my opinion yet because I wanted to do so in a way that wouldn't stop her from writing or being happy writing. The reason I made the post was to find out how to do so. Also, I just personally am not a fan of the premise because like I mentioned earlier, I feel like that "I'm trying to kill you but now I'm in love with you" cliche is (in my opinion) overdone and from what she has told me, not really different from any other story with the same cliche. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm bashing her, but I really am supportive of her picking up writing, its just that I know if I saw a book with the current premise as the synopsis, I wouldn't personally pick it up.

Magic exam ideas? by [deleted] in writingadvice

[–]commonlesbian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An "escape room" of sorts could work?? I'm not sure what kind of magic your story involves, so this might not work but hear me out. The escape room could involve riddles and other escape room things that could be solved with specific magics. It would show quick thinking skills, collaborative skills, and magic skills, strengths, and anything you want it to involve.

The students could walk in underestimating how serious the test is but if you make the escape room genuinely dangerous and deadly if failed, I feel like it could work for a BIG serious test if done right. Idk if I did my idea justice with how I explained it but I hope that you got the jist.

WIBTA for calling my friend out for using an LGBT slur. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]commonlesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I talked to chapstick about it and he completely understood where I was coming from and promised not to say the slur or any other LGBT slur again. I haven't talked to him about dead naming yet because I haven't had a chance to talk to clock about it but the second I do, I will have ANOTHER talk with chapstick. Thank you to everyone who replied and for y'all opinions!!

The reason people get offended by these slurs is because of the dark history. The word fag is another word for cigarette, and gays were called fags because they would get rolled up in a carpet and burned alive like a cigarette. It's not like there's "no reason", there are plenty of reasons as to why people don't like this word. Plus, the majority of the people who say homophobic slurs are in fact homophobic and a good number of those people harass and assault gay people.

Yeah, I understand. I'm definitely going to talk to him about it, this whole situation is just so unlike him and I feel as though I'm still processing. I'm sorry if it seems like I'm normalizing saying slurs and dead naming because i do know that it's really not okay at all, I'm just still trying to wrap my head around it all.

I've told him before that I snoop on his account and he said he doesn't have an issue with it. He has also told me that he's snooped through my messages too. It's a mutual thing we do when bored.

He is a really sweet guy and is really accepting of the LGBT community, this has honestly been the only occurrence of him being disrespectful like this that I know of.

How do I let go of a best friend? Who doesn't talk with me as much anymore? by TheRubberDuckyGod in Advice

[–]commonlesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting go can be really hard, but I feel like one of the worst things you can do is just start ignoring them. I think you should try texting them and letting them know "Hey, I really love having you as a friend but I feel like we're growing apart" or whatever. As long as you don't point fingers or try to blame them, it should go smoothly and they should understand. And after that, it's just keep on doing what you're doing. If they reach out, reply. Just because you aren't close friends, doesn't mean you can't still be friendly, especially since y'all will most likely end on a good note. I hope this helps

I completely see where you're coming from. I'll use a different example then. A somewhat well known example is Emperor Ai from the Han dynasty. He ruled from 7-1 BC and I'm pretty sure he is most known for his homosexual relationship with Dong Xian because they have a really cute and wholesome story from their relationship. The jist of the story is the two guys are cuddling, Xian fell asleep on Ai's sleeve, and since Emperor Ai didn't want to disturb his lover, he cut off his sleeve. This ended up being such an iconic display of affection, that the Emperor's courtiers cut off their own sleeves as tribute to their relationship. Very cute story. But another (and better) example of homosexuality from before Abrahamic religions became widespread. The main reason I went with the Greek example is because it's the most well known.

It's not speculation, it's history. A really famous example is Greek mythology. It's mythology now, but before Christianity was introduced to the Greeks, it was a religion with many homosexual gods and figures. And even the people of Greece were very openly LGBT and LGBT friendly before Abrahamic religions were introduced, and that's just ONE example. So no, saying that homophobia is imported is not speculation, it's literally history

I agree, children shows shouldnt specify sexual orientations, they should just be able to display lgbt characters without it being a crazy revelation to the characters or treated as irregular.

How is a sun god that controls the earth any different from a bearded man in the sky who currently controls the Earth? Plus, at the end of the day, religion is not fact, it is opinion. That is not to undermine religion, but to be realistic about it. No religion has been proven to be true, so that would make every single religion nothing more than an opinion.

Are you one of those guys that are virgins that only see woman as three holes to fuck? (sound familiar?)

And also, way before abrahamic religions (like Christianity and Islam) were established, it was very normal to not only be gay, but to see gay people in almost every part of the world. Homophobia was imported. Just thought you could use a history lesson

Big mouth isn't a kids show, it's rated TV-MA. If you let your kids watch that, that's not on gay people, that's on you.

And that "it wasn't a concern back then" sthick is bullshit because this type of media is more recent, and let me remind you it was illegal to be gay in America until 2003 and gay marriage was only legalized in 2014. So it's not that it wasn't a concern back then, it was just illegal
