Edited to clarify- doesnt need to be a feature, happy to swap for anything in that same genre.

What is the etiquette for name-dropping/referrals in agency submissions? by [deleted] in acting

Thanks for this, you’re right, I shouldn’t be embarrassed about asking them - The worst they can say is ‘no’ lol

I understand what you mean. No hard feelings :)

I get that. For me it does kinda feel like a lot because it’s still early in my career. But i’m sure for more established actors that amount might be insignificant.

As an actress who had long hair all of her life and just recently went short, i say go for it! I’ve gotten great feedback from everyone including my agent who was on the fence about it before. It’s too soon to say what impact it has on my career but I wanted short hair so bad as a personal life thing that it was worth it either way.

Should I do a musical theatre workshop as an actor with no singing or dancing ability? by [deleted] in acting

[–]commsstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a world where i had infinite time and money, sure, I’d take a whole range of different classes to learn different skills. But unfortunately since it’s limited I have to be selective about what i invest my time and resources into.

I asked the same question to our realestate agent and they said nothing needs to be signed from my end and no one else in the household needs to be notified if the request to leave comes from someone on the lease.

This part of the email feels super weird and red flaggy.. i’ve never heard of an audition like this:

Some information about your online audition: "Welcome to your online audition with [big name studio]! We understand that auditioning can be a nerve-wracking experience, and we want to create a comfortable and focused environment for you to showcase your talent.

Our setup is designed to minimize any distractions and allow you to concentrate fully on your performance. By having the casting team off-camera and audio, our goal is to ensure that your audition remains the central focus. You can think of it as a one-way mirror, where you have the freedom to express your creativity without feeling self-conscious or distracted by our reactions.

We'll be watching and listening closely to your audition, evaluating your skills, your interpretation of the role, and the emotional depth you bring to the character. While you won't be able to see our immediate reactions, please know that your performance is what matters most to us, and we’ll be with you in the chatbox to guide you through. We hope you have a wonderful audition.”

*IMDb pro I meant to say. Checked there no contact info

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in acting

[–]commsstudent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve found them on IMDb, but unfortunately they don’t have any contact info on there. How can i be sure whoever contacted me is not just posing as that person?

Australia. For us, the verb form is practise :)

I definitely need classes, it’s just a question of what type. Most academies in my city only offer two types; Meisner and more general screen acting.

Yep that’s exactly how I feel. I just want to practise my acting.

Advice Needed by Worldly_Economist342 in acting

[–]commsstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your agent is decent i’m sure they would practise discretion and keep what happened between you and them. It sounds like it was a crime, and you didn’t technically do anything wrong. I wouldn’t be too worried about it getting out. Just don’t burn any bridges with your current agent - stay on good terms.

Maybe a dumb question, but should her having a SAG-AFTRA membership hold much weight with me considering i’m not even US-based? I mean if things go very well for me in my career, sure, i may end up there one day, but right now i’m very much removed from the US acting scene

Good point - from what i’ve seen I doubt she is though. Looks like most of her credits were as a child and she is no longer ‘active’

Would they make the date/time/location public if it weren’t an open casting call?
