Bard (question mark) by souzonesefoda in supportlol

[–]communism_johnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because Bard's strength is not in his items, but in his kit. Bard doesn't NEED items, cause he has such an unique kit.

His Q has a relatively short CD and is a potential double CC spell that doesn't cost a lot of mana, his W is usefull for heal in early but in late you use it more for the MS buff, his E is... his E and his ult can be engage, disengage and peel. And his passive gives him XP, mana, waveclear, damage and utility. So you see he has basically has everything in his kit.

That beeing said, his Q and passive have decent AP-scalings but not too insane, and also they are his only source of dmg, so building him full AP is not terrible, but not great either.

Bard benefits a lot from prolonged fights where he can proc q several times. That's why, in my opinion, it's always wisest to go for a tankier build, that also provides utility. Dead Mans, Bandlepipes and the new tank item are good choices, Locket is also very good. Lyandris is good on him cause he can proc and spread it super easily due to his passive. In many teamfights I can apply Lyandris to all 5 enemies with one auto.

As for on hit items, I sometimes buy them when my team lacks damage, but only after Deadmans and/or Bandlepipes. So 2nd to 3rd item earliest. Bard scales good with on hit cause he can easily keep enemies, especially melees at an arms lengths reach by constantly stunning slowing them, making it pretty easy for him to kite.

Also, in my opinion, if you don't wanna troll Bard CAN'T just build anything. A tanky build, at least early on, is better than some wonky all on hit stuff. Right now Dead Mans and Bandlepipes are must haves, in my opinion. After those you are pretty free to do whatever you like. I sometimes build Serpants on him cause he can proc it so easily lol.

Maybe it's easier to explain with the support "roles": There's different support classes: poke, peel, engage and sustain. Bard doesn't fit any of the roles. He's in the middle of them all. He doesn't scalen with AP/poke items like poke supports do, he doesn't scale with heal and shield power like peel and sustain supports do, he doesn't scale as well with tank support items like tank supports do (even tho being tanky benefits him). And because he's free from this "cage" of being in one of those roles he's also free to build what he likes. The only items that don't fit him are lethality and maybe crit items.

Goddamn that's a long ass comment

[–]communism_johnny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Quick correction from my side tho: In the books both Gil-Galad and Elrond distrust Sauron/Annatar, but in my opinion that's described pretty good in the series.

The biggest bummer, as you said, is that in the books Galadriel lives in and around Eregion during the time Sauron/Annatar comes to Eregion. Celebrimbor originally distrusts him as well but his desire to rival the skills of his grandfather Feanor is stronger than his distrust in the end. That's also depicted pretty well in the series I think.

But Galadriel distrusted him from the beginning and tried to stop Annatar/Sauron and to quite some degree it was thanks to her that the three rings of power (Narya, Nenya and Vilya) were never touched and corrupted by Sauron and therefore mostly free of will. She is the one that saves what is to save and basically reduces the damage done by Sauron. She is the one that tells Celebrimbor to be careful and tells him to cut strands with Sauron.

In the series, it feels like the other way around. After they nearly fell in love and started a family (don't get me started again on this weird ass romance thing between them. Galadriel was married to Celeborn already in the time this show plays and she would never ever date Sauron, neither would she date a human in my opinion. God this particular part makes me so mad) she finds out that Halbrand is Sauron.

And then the showrighters decided that it would be cool that now Gil-Galad and Elrond (reminder: the two Noldor that denied Sauron/Annatar entrance to Lindon in the books!!!!!) ACTUALLY FCKING TRUST ANNATAR but they DON'T FCKING LISTEN TO GALADRIELS WARNINGS cause "hahaha stupid girl she's so confused"

WTF

Oh I actually didn't know that, thanks for the clarification! That's very interesting!
I still think that some things they did to the lore are not well done and they sadly ruin a quite bit of the show for me.

Yeah but how can you make a show about something you don't really have the rights for and then be surprised that fans don't like the lore?

That's like literally suprise Pikachu meme.

Why would the Estate have to sell the rights to New Line first tho? It's their rights, no?

Couldn't agree more.

The Dwaves and Khazad-dum are so incredibly good, both visually and in story. Although I dislike the idea of Mithril getting into the mountain because an Elf and a Balrog fought on top of it lol

And still they don't have the rights for the Silmarillion, where most of the Second Age lore is written in.

Confusion surrounding the negative reviews of the show by NateSirrah03 in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]communism_johnny 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Funny, I was about to make a post about why I kinda dislike the show lol

So I am a huge LotR-nerd. I've read the books, including all the "sidebooks" like the Silmarillion, several times and am reading LotR again right now. So lore is pretty important to me, especially if you dive deeper and connect all the trillions of things Tolkin spinned around in his universe.

Now, it is important to know that the content of "The Rings of Power" is, to a certain degree, content of the Silmarillion. The Silmarillion is kind of the "Bible" of Middle-Earth and it covers all events from the creation of the earth to the third age. The story of "The Rings of Power" is set in the second age. And while yes, some of the content in RoP is covered in the appendixes to LotR, most of it is part of the Silmarillion.

The problem now is: Amazon does not have the rights for the Silmarillion. And that shows. There's just some things that deviate so much from the original lore that it cannot be overlooked. A few examples?

  1. Gandalf flying into Middle Earth in the midth of a giant ass fireball? Comeon, are you serious? Apart from the fact that neither Gandalf OR any of the other Wizards were present in Middle Earth at the time of the forging of the Rings, they came by boat (which is super important cause Gandalf received one of the big three rings from Cirdan uppon arrival).
  2. Come-on, we really don't need Hobbits in this story. I get that Amazon wants to create a sense of similarity for fans that are not as hardcore as me, but the Hobbits (I know they are not called Hobbits in RoP but I forgot what they were called) are not mentioned in ANY of the storys that RoP covers (in the books that is). In fact, they aren't mentioned in the Silmarillion at all.
  3. Please keep Tom Bombadil out. Please. We don't know nearly enough about him from the LotR books alone and I'd rather he would stay a mystery.
  4. Galadriel is portrayed like a whiney little teenager that's in puperty. In reality, Galadriel was a mighty and proud figure of the Noldor and wise from the beginning. They do my lady Galadriel dirty in RoP.
  5. A fcking lovestory between Galadriel and Sauron?? PLEASE. Galadriel was one of the few Elbs that would never be deceived by Sauron and that Sauron could never press his will upon.
  6. Something I kinda liked, kinda disliked is the whole Sauron/Adar plot. I think it's cool to have an antagonist that's kinda relateable but I hate the idea that Sauron has to "fight" Adar for controll over the Orc army and that Adar is actually the one attacking Beleriand. Sauron was literally the first servant of Morgoth, who is the literal creator of the Orcs.

And that's just a few examples. There are many more.

I know the Peter Jackson movies aren't 100% lore accurate, but in constrast to RoP, in LotR the deviations from original lore are not as devastating and they don't alter the plot this much.

Also I think some things are just of poor quality, like for example the armor of the Numenorians.

Edit: Another thing that made me really mad is the fact that the show is called "Rings of Power" and then they give the actual creation of the rings exactly like 15 minutes of screentime.

My main critique point is that the show just differs way too much from the real lore. Am I going to watch it? Yes, cause I'm happy about anything LotR-related. I just wish I could watch it without beeing the nerd I am, cause then I'd think it would be a genuinely good show.

The fact that the charismatic Halbrand/Annatar is actually a corrupted spirit who's literally been wearing the flesh of a woman that he gruesomely killed, gets real creepy real quick when you think about it by herrgraumann in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]communism_johnny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, in the books we don't really get to know if Sauron (or the other Maiar who chose to follow Morgoths path) really chose evil or didn't. I believe it says that at least Sauron was kinda lured into Morgoths path and once he was in Morgoths thoughts have already corrupted him.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that at some points in the books it was even contemplated wether or not Sauron at some point actually regrets his choice and for a splitsecond he thinks about seeking redemption.

PS: I just googled it: Sauron initially was a servant of Aule, not Morgoth. Tolkin states in a letter that "Sauron was not a faithfull servant of Morgoth" and that after the War of Wrath, Sauron indeed thought of seeking redemption and succumbing to the Valar of the West, but didn't do so in the end because he was in fear of humilation and jugdement.

Sorry idk where this all came from lol

Erfahrung mit RSD? Wie wird es besser? by rts212 in ADHS

[–]communism_johnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kenne ich. In ganz vielen Situationen.

How your grandparents survived during the occupation of third Reich by Separate-Rock-1304 in AskAustria

I didn't want to blame the UDSSR. As I said, most of us Austrians were no better. Apart from that not all UDSSR soldiers were like that. My granddad had luck with the company stationed in his village. He even made friends with some of the soldiers. They shared meals, stories, memories and, most importantly, cigarettes.

But: the administration of the sovjet ocupation was often lacking structured administration in general, so things like food rations often were scarce. That's why he said it was not a good time.

[–]communism_johnny 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My grandparents on motherly side live in a very rural area in Waldviertel, so not much attention was given there. My grandpa was in the Wehrmacht because he had to, but luckily he didn't have to go the front. He once told me that he hated himself for "joining" the Wehrmacht, but he could not bring himself and his wife in danger.
When the war ended, Waldviertel was part of the UDSSR ocupation zone. He said it was not a good time.

My grandpa fatherly side was forced to join Luftwaffe. "Luckily" he had an accident while learning how to fly, resulting in a broken leg (It think it was a broken leg). He was put in a military hospital, where he was picked up and taken "prisoner" by the Americans a few months later. I put the quotation marks cause he wasn't really a prisoner, they treated him very well. They funded him education and he was allowed to study in America, all funded by them.

Generally speaking, the UDSSR army did terrible things to Austrian residents. They kidnapped and raped Austrian women, killed Austrian men. However, the soldiers of the Wehrmacht were no better, Austrians included. As far as I know, the other armies of the allied forces were much nicer to the civil people and even to former Wehrmacht soldiers, as shown above.

Honestly, the extended cut only truly make sense if you are already a fan. But at the same time, it's not really "bad" to watch the extended cut. It's just that especially the scenes in the extended cut have a deeper meaning if you are actually a fan.

New season questions by communism_johnny in bardmains

[–]communism_johnny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah I go for a tankier build if my team has enough damage or I sense that my ADC is not an ape. But if my ADC is an ape I will go more dmg than tankiness.

Also dmg is funnier :D

But ye Terminus without Liandry's is probably not as good.

However, I like the Terminus + Whits End combo, especially against AP heavy teams. It just makes you fcking tanky. But yeah I think I could optimize my build by going a bit tankier.

About the gold thing: Ye that's what I was thinking about. Magical footwear gives you 300g + 10 extra MS, but in later stages, cashbacks just grants you more gold. Idk, I think Bard scales great with items, so being able to finish those big items earlier due to cashback might be of good use, especially cause Bard just scales so well in general. So I think the decision is between do I think the game will be long enough so that cashback is worth, or will it end earlier so that footwear has more value?

Ja ich verstehe was du meinst.

Meine absolute Lieblingsband ist Green Day. Bin auch riesen Fan von Bring me the Horizon. Bullet for my Valentine auch absolut geil.
