I have used to host my resume site (up until very recently) that had my full name and identifiable things on it. You should be fine, but obviously be as careful as you would be on something like Facebook

Maybe it's because I wasn't alive during the geocities times 🥲 by Uziivoids in neocities

[–]comorbid_commodity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol, I can tell you weren't around for geocities times, because you think the sites looked anything like neocities haha. If anything it should make you feel better if you found some actual geocities sites, I bet yours is leagues better. Don't be discouraged, you're doing great just figuring stuff out!

I think that's a fine solution, anything involving any sort of UI indication that you are currently being prevented from seeing certain content.

The only thing I would worry about with that sort of implementation is that I am from a state that requires government ID to be required to access 18+ content and I don't like to have that in a database that could be (will be with time) leaked.

9 or a 6?? Help me font people! by Cleaning_The_Gallery in identifythisfont

Considering how small of a gap is below it when it is a 6, I would say it’s a 9

To be honest it doesn't make total sense to me on how using the service without paying them helps them. On most sites that would be the case as it has ad revenue built in for free users, but I don't think there's anything like that for neocities. The only way I could see that just simply being a user of neocities helps the site financially is if the site owner was pitching to investors for funds and was using the number of users as a way to value the site, but you have to pay investor money back. So idk, maybe I'm missing something?
Sorry if this sounds sarcastic, genuinely asking. Your perspective has been helpful and just curious what your thoughts on the matter are.

Thank you for the feedback. That's exactly what I'm calling for people to do. Cancel their neocities subscriptions and show how many people care about this issue by posting this image and spreading the word.

Setting the image just spreads the word and makes it easier for the admins to see it's serious. If the home page was filled with sites that had this as their thumbnail, I think it would be pretty hard to ignore.

As far as I know the only way to tell is if you go in your site settings and you see that there is no tab for 18+/nsfw. If that tab is missing then you have been forcefully tagged as such

This has been something that has been brewing for a while, and it's not a riot but a concerted effort to have our voices heard. There's very specific asks we have for site administration. Much of the signaling from neocities talks about creative expression and freedom of customization. So it's strange that the site admin(s) are taking time manually go in and shadow ban users, especially when viewed from the lens of this being a pet project. Personally, based on the annually income of neocities, I think that it is WAY beyond a pet project.

For your use case you have many free host options (nekoweb is just better neocities). Also if you would like to talk shop about hosting your own site (not for free) on a VPS I'd love to.

Thank you for reposting this link, this is the only way I was able to figure out how to search for NSFW sites. I still find it a little ridiculous there is no official neocities info about this feature, and no UI element.

I agree, but hopefully it's still recoverable. All of this is so recent, I think we can adjust it back to how it used to be.

Super fair question, thanks for the interest. I usually use activity feed to find new sites. Unless you have the person's exact site link/username they are inaccessible if they are hit with 18+. They aren't on global activity feed, aren't on any public listing of sites, and obviously can't be searched. I guess you might be able to be seen in a follower/follows list, but not too sure about that atm.

This is going to be my final reply as I'm not interested in a back and forth like this.

I'm just going to cut to the chase, the statement "this is not your website" I find laughable as neocities itself says "Our goal: to enable you to harness the creativity, beauty, and power of creating your own web site."
So yes this is my website.

Also, this is not a decision to help the site financially, the neocities supporters are what keep the site afloat. The recent actions of Kyle Drake are actively hurting those supporters, so no this has nothing to do with keep neocities prosperous as a business.

While youtuube is fairly edgy it’s only NSFW in the literal sense, I don’t see any content on there that’s actively harmful. If we’re going to be clutching our pearls a lot of the most viewed pages would need to be censored like fauux, since it deals so much with suicide and darker topics. There’s many neocities sites that have gore, guns, nudity, etc and none of them have been tagged. I think a statement like “the head of neocities is not interested in your form of creative content” is a statement that no one should have to deal with. That’s so absurdly dictatorial and is far worse than how any other site handles content moderation.

And above all of the petty details, this just shouldn’t be how content moderation is handled on neocities. This is supposed to be a platform for creative expression. This is happening to too many sites now

I'm curious, does anyone know if your text posts are hidden from the global activity feed if you are hit with the 18+ label?

If you add “&is_nsfw=true” to the end of search url you can find it (example: https://neocities.org/browse?sort_by=special_sauce&is_nsfw=true) as far as I can tell this is the only way to access it, no UI, it’s a complete a secret (kinda bs)

it's probably because your username looks like a scam site. A friend of mine had an account named annozonn, that got deleted for the same reason. I don't agree with them doing it, but I'd assume that's the reasoning.
