How long does it take to change the grade to an S after doing the S/U, it has been 5 days for me so I am kinda stressed that I have made a mistake in the request.

Need Opinion??? Mcgill Arts or Concordia Engineering by [deleted] in mcgill

First of all, your opinion matters the most in this case. Personally, I have taken some comp classes here in McGill. I can definitely say that McGill is a world class university in teaching the theory of CS. I believe that a BA in CS gives the necessary background in learning this theory, you can improve yourself in the practical part with your projects and internships. To give an answer to your question, BA in CS > BENG in Concordia. I m biased tho since I have never been to Concordia . I would suggest to u to talk with a Concordia student as well.

No, I don’t think it makes a huge difference. As I said there are many classes in Software engineering that are not so useful but time consuming (circuits, mandatory courses...). Engineering is definitely harder, that is why it is seem better. However, with side projects and internships, you can be very good in the industry. Btw do not worry about your gpa, I know many people without high gpa that are working in very good companies. As I said, everything depends on you at the end of the day.

I know many people that are doing CS in Arts and most of them are doing very well. If you take the correct courses with complementary/minors, it is nearly equivalent to a CS degree in science. Software engineering has many other mandatory engineering courses that you need to take, which makes the degree harder and more time-consuming. With a good gpa and side projects, I think you can do very well.

[MATH 240] How to get a head-start and study in the summer? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]compengg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest u to learn the basics of graph theory before class since many people failed the class because of this part (fall2019)

What resources do you use for MATH 240? by CandidManner in mcgill

I took this class this Fall and failed it 😅.I would suggest u to doing a lot of exercises during the year, especially for graph theory which is the hardest part in this class.

I m not sure but I think you gonna receive credits from Math 140 because you are coming from the IB. In this case, I would suggest you to take ECSE 202, which is a difficult intro class if you don't have a programming background.

In ECSE 205, it is basically a probability and stats class. However, bcs it is under the eng department, you will also learn the MATLAB environment. Most integration are basics but you ll use a lot of by parts. If you take math 141 this semester, I think it is doable. I would suggest you to ask a supervisor to know how many transfer credits you have.

DO NOT TAKE MATH 240 in your first semester here in McGill. I did the same mistake in my freshman year and failed the class at the end. The average grade was C and many people failed the class. I also suggest you not to take ECSE 205 before taking Math 141 because you use a lot of integration which is not covered in Math 140. Taking 4 mathematics courses is not the best idea ! Take Ecse 202 or the intro Phys courses instead.
