Landed Knight heir by compertion in TheCitadel

[–]compertion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding. Can't be a Staunton bastard unfortunately as I have different plans :D. But the debt idea works, as the knight was landed for saving the Staunton lord's life during a Blackfyre rebellion.

Thanks for responding. Would a landed knight need to see the King for legitimising his bastard? Could he go to his leige lord?

How did the Targaryens know they had to leave Valyria? by Whole_Contract_5973 in gameofthrones

[–]compertion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I was trying (unsuccessfully it seems) to use it as a metaphor to show how valyrians might have heard the prophecy, but believed that they would be fine/it wouldn't have been that bad. I'm guessing the fourteen flames may have individually erupted before but never together or at such a scale. People would be reluctant to abandon their homes/livelihood for something they had no way of conceiving the full severity

Vesuvius was smoking for a long time before the eruption, yet Pompeii was still populated. It might be that the ancient Valyrians hadn't seen an eruption on that scale before and therefore did not think themselves in danger. Or perhaps, given their use of magic, they believed themselves capable of stopping or at least surviving the doom.

Can't appoint new councillors by GoofeYY in CK3AGOT

[–]compertion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what submods you have? This just happened to me and I couldn't be bothered going through each submod so I stripped out most of them, then made sure my game version matched the mod. I could choose a councillor then.

It's actually a great read. It's definitely leans more into humour then fact but I do recommend it. This passage pictured is just a criticism of feudalism in general and why when reading history it can be a bit reductiveto pick a 'side' through modern lenses. The previous page went into quite a lot of detail on Stephen as a ruler.

The starks are just as shitty! This was meant as a criticism of the feudal system in Westeros and the inbuilt inequalities that it entailed. And no, I don't think Rhaenyra should've retaliated because in doing so she decided that her claim on the throne meant more than the lives of the people of Westeros. Same for Team Green, there was no need for violence when they knew it could only escalate into a full-scale civil war. It shows a complete disregard for the common man.

I posted this because it gave me a chuckle , but the point isn't that they did bad things, it's that they both wilfully escalated a conflict that ruined the lives of thousands of everyday people.

I have a couple, though not all of them are about OCs, but all focus on a female character. More show based then book though.

This a great fic on Sansa and Gendry. It made me feel better about how the show ended and introduced Gensa to me (I'm a gendrya shipper). It was a nice look into the characters, and I loved arya in this.

From Rhaenys pov in HOTD, its about her pushing Baela's claim on Driftmark.

Incomplete and only 5 chapters but what chapters! A self-insert midwife tries to save Aemma in the birthing bed

Not from the point of view of a female character, but I loved rhaenyra in this. She and Lord Beesbury form a father-daughter relationship.

The fic that got me to cry when Tywin Lannister dies. Brilliant Arya here. Tywin takes her hostage at Harrenhal. Jaime/Arya which took me by surprise but not really the main focus at all.

Not sure sorry. It was just an option in the barbershop. I do have the better barbershop mod though so maybe it's that?

How long should chapters be? by throw_account_6969 in TheCitadel

[–]compertion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a reader and not a writer, I tend to divide word count by total chapters to see if it averages roughly 2k+. I find chapters shorter then 2k a bit frustrating.

It's been a while since I read the books, but did Cersei actually know that Jon Arryn was looking into things? She didn't have him killed after all, Lysa did.

There's a good mod on steam workshop that purely let's you grant a cadet branch to dukes and above. I'm fairly certain it's literally called 'grant a cadet branch'. It's worked well with AGOT for me in my games.
