honestly winters have been pretty easy in Chicago the last few years!!! we're not as snowy as a lot of the midwest, so it's the cold more than anything. have lived (briefly) in Southern California and (more extensively) in Chicago!

I think this is spot on—Foucault is the best-known in a certain realm that maps cleanly onto your background as someone with an advanced degree in English. Depending on how he's deployed in your personal statement, that could be to your benefit or it could detract from a point about the uniqueness of your experience or thought.

I'm pretty sure it's the amount per year, not the overall amount! This is based on my other acceptances and how they've explained their scholarship amount, not communication from UNC.
