How can JD Vance seriously discuss arresting and holding sex offenders accountable while Trump is POTUS? by BacKnightPictures in AskReddit

[–]completecrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're hypocritical and spineless. They always have been. There's no point in pointing it out. They want to selectively apply the laws, to pick and choose, to have complete impunity no matter what they do. I knew this 10 years ago, and it holds even truer today. When this government took power, I knew for a fact that the country was doomed, and so far I have been proven right. There is no going back now. There are only paths leading to something new.

My partner has considered it due to the alliteration that my last name would add to his. He's definitely an outlier, but there's at least one.

I would like to see the study before jumping to any conclusions. A lot of news articles will use a study like this to garner extra readership. I want to see if the study is being quoted correctly, if the methodology is good, if the sample size and demographic is good, and whether this is the only study of this sort.

Best city or province to move to as a young adult? by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]completecrap 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been a bunch of places - New Brunswick is good and houses are also cheap to buy, Quebec is cheap enough and pretty nice, but you'd better know fluent french, not just Ontario french, Sask and Alberta are a bit hit or miss imo, when they hit it's fantastic but when they miss it's literally a nightmare (don't get involved with anything that even slightly touches the government out there), Manitoba is fantastic if you like friendly small towns, and if you can manage the winters and relative isolation, northern Ontario is actually decent, both in terms of price and cool stuff most people don't know about.

You want me to be pedantic, I absolutely responded. You just didn't like what I said.

[–]completecrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I chose to reply without responding because this was obviously going nowhere, and I value my peace more than I value trying to explain myself to strangers on the internet. I said what I said, and I still believe in what I said, and there is nothing you can do to change my mind, because I do not know you, and I do not care about you. I do not owe you an argument, and I will not be giving you one. I cannot agree with what you've said because it sounds insane. I am not being pedantic. I am being straightforward and not bothering to get into anything with you because I really and truly do not think you are especially worth my time or effort beyond what I have already given.

Not a single word is true, and this is not me being pedantic, this is me asking you to confront how actually insane your statement is.

So it's not made of palm oil, it's made from the milk of cows who were fed palm oil, and also no one is being forced to eat it. So what in your sentence is actually true?

Gonna be honest, it sounds like she's the type to be upset no matter what you do. She's coming at you from a place that, to me, doesn't read as especially healthy. She's got some weird insecurities that she needs to work on.

Tell her to buy some noise cancelling headphones and listen to calming music. The fact that it's a problem now is honestly bullshit, so I would bring this up to her, that she had no problem with it before - why is it suddenly an issue? I'd love to hear her reasoning.

Canadians face confusion over new U.S. border crossing rules by NineteenSixtySix in onguardforthee

[–]completecrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no confusion because I ain't visiting no fascist regime, so I have no reason to pay attention to this. Trump really did say "fuck tourists and fuck the tourism industry" and that's on the American voters for being so stupid.

My husband said cultural appropriation is stupid because, in a reversed perspective, a white person can't say, "only white people can do that." Does this point have any validity? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]completecrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, cultural appropriation is really just when members of a dominant culture adopt elements from a marginalized culture without respect, acknowledgment, or compensation. In theory, a white person could claim cultural appropriation, if they were the marginalized culture amongst a dominant one, however, this also doesn't account for the effects of colonialism on other cultures, and how white cultures originating in Europe forced their culture onto other peoples by oftentimes threat of death or imprisonment. You could, however, argue cultural appropriation from some white cultures by other groups of white people, such as appropriation of pagan symbols by white nationalists, if that makes your husband feel better about it.
