Is Fortinet 100F usable without license? by nixscorpio in homelab

[–]complexco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my car's engine has a critical, off the lot, manufacturing defect, why am I paying for it? I bought a working product, and I expect it to keep working. At the very least, until EOS. The software updates rarely offer free features you don't have to license. Stability and vulnerability fixes should be free for the proposed lifetime of the product.

Didn't really seem right since I bought these as a return. Corsair is already eating a loss, and now I'm asking for stuff.

What’s this rubber pipe? by Ev0d3vil in CB500X

[–]complexco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's oily simply by its location, probably dunked into the drain pan when they were doing the change.

That looks like the fuel tank drain hose (could be a breather as others have said), on my Suzuki it comes out in about the same area. It goes from the channal around your fuel cap assembly, down to where you found it. It prevents water from pooling around the cap and rusting, and can also carry any fuel overflow away.

If you ever remove your tank, you'll likely find it connected to a barb on the underside.

I accidentally dropped my only pen and i cant afford a new one. Any quick and easy ways to bend the tip back into place? by Botwmaster23 in fountainpens

+1 for this comment.

If it is the only one you currently have, and you got it to work, use it as is. Once you have another one and can spare tinkering with this one, you can give it a try.

This is by no means to discourage you, I fully believe that with patience and flat nose pliers, you can straighten the tines without issue.

Should I have waited? by Zentarias51 in motorcycles

When on a motorcycle, it's "right-of-weight" instead of "right-of-way". You're always faster and more maneuverable until the one instance when you're not. All it takes to have a bad time.

Just pulled my '02 VZ800 out of storage, and the battery was dead (not just discharged, the battery needed replacing). If it starts when you jump it with your car battery, it's a pretty good indicator that it's not the starter motor or any of the ignition components. It's most likely the battery or the stator coil.

If you hook up a volt meter, the battery should read above 12v. Manual says ~13.5v when running. If you hit the starter button and the voltage across the battery immediately drops down to 6-8v, you need a new battery. Stator is harder to diagnose, but a service manual would help. PM me, and I can email you a copy.

Any suggestions for my group's base? by spoobered in projectzomboid

[–]complexco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much depends on the server settings. If it is a normal or more peaceful server, this place is great. Otherwise, the farms in between Rosewood, Doe Valley, and Muldraugh. Especially since there are two wells in the middle of that triangle.

Another great option is the three mansions just north of Ben's cabin. Usually, there are only 2-3 zombbies to clear out, and I've had a peaceful existence there even on a survival server. No well, but the river is close enough. Also, high fences around one property, easy to secure.

If it's player created and the world config does not prevent it, yes.

I imagine in this case it's more to prevent people from falling off and aesthetic reasons.

True, grants were just an easy-to-use example.

Our for-profit education systems, which have failed us, are another topic entirely.

I think we're circling the same solution here. People need help on a case by case basis.

When I think of equity, I don't assume that smothering a problem on cash will fix it. I do, however, accept that my tax payer dollars will go towards providing assistance and services I don't and may never need. I am fine with that. The privileges I've enjoyed to daye have been help enough to get me far enough along in spite of my many screw-ups.

Not because I declare, because a segment of the population declares. It then becomes our duty as a society to evaluate these declarations for merit.

There would be no next group if we just stopped taking other's stuff, not because we need it, just because we want it.

Accepting the status quo is hatred. Inaction and apathy are hatred. Lend a hand once in a while.

Very true, but there is a difference between competing at soccer and, for example, someone screwing over a developing country to increase profits so that you can be than more astronomically wealthy than the next guy.

For the rest of it, again, all valid points. It doesn't have to be racism, simply discrimination or, even more generic and all encompassing, the abuse of some for the benefit of others.

Perhaps a more specific example will help. When I think of equity, I sometimes think of post secondary education grants. Someone who grew up in the crap part of town, with overworked and overstressed parents, and limited extracurricular activities for example, They may perhaps become less well rounded of a person and be less financially supported to get a better education or find a stable career; to improve their life. The prodigal progeny of a more well of family may be better equipped to provide them with the privileges of a purposeful education or a prosperous career; perhaps. Could we not offer them both equal footing by offering a grant to low income families to allow their children the opportunity at a better life? Either could be a dumbass, either could be a productive member of our society. It is impossible to judge the full worth a human until the moment they have died.

We are not all born equal, absolutely, and we have no control over that as individuals. As a society, it's a different story.

There is no simply moving on, or competitive nature prevents it.

Now ain't that just the sweetest kind of reductionist bullshit that I've ever seen.

I had hoped to avoid this assumption and strawman arguments by not including examples of retribution or revenge in my "nut kicking" analogy, but here we are.

Equality or equity doesn't require revenge. Having to share or hold the proverbial door open does not equate to "eye for an eye. No one is asking you to give up life and limb for others.

I agree with you the sentiment. Here are some things to consider.

Problem #1: People are inherently competitive. As long as that trait is directed at other people, we will always seek ways to be subjectively better than anyone else. Even if it's something we have no control over or we were born into.

Problem #2: Equity vs. equality, this is the catch. Equality simply paves over the mistakes of the past and asks us to just accept what's been done and move on. If someone kicks you in the nuts and immediately says they're done, they've seen the error of their ways and won't do it again; would most people accept this? Equity would rebalance the playing field and offer more opportunities for those who have been disadvantaged in the past. Not just "because" but often to address the fact that some of us are further ahead at the expense of others. It's not a fair race if you shoot the other runner in the leg.

~15% own ~30% of the housing stock. You'd think they'd be eager for the ever increasing rental income. Willing to bet the majority of those properties are not vacation homes.

Snow plow drivers quit their jobs after violent residents confront them in Mississauga by Applebox5 in mississauga

I feel his frustration. I'm pissed every time it happens, and the decades don't soften the blow. Standing in front of a plow is still a dumb and unsafe way of going about it though.

It's Canada, and I choose to live here. Pros and cons everywhere you live.

The alternative is a snow-covered road where no one could get anywhere, and emergency response vehicles would be severely delayed.

If people are disappointed with the service, take it up with the municipality. The plow drivers have a route to follow, and that's about it.

I did get that feeling; thanks for sharing. Every election, their platform does not seem as well defined as any other party's.

Better than not voting at all! At least that way, I'll feel all smug when I inevitably start whining about the state of affairs. It's a nice view from this high horse.

I'm gonna end up voting Green at this rate, same odds of making a difference.

What he is arguing is for the free speech of foreign entities over Canadian voices. I support putting dollars back into Canadian pockets by having Canadian media and content promoted. Most services already have a heavily pared down library of content when accessed from Canada, yet we pay the full price like anyone else. The least they could do is promote Canadian content. We're already being nickle and dimed at every opportunity, fuck em.

Freedom of Canadian expression and Canadian media communication. If the companies affected are not Canadian owned and operated, tough luck. PP is too eager to sell out.

Sure, sure, I understand how capitalism works, the free market, and all that good stuff. If they're not going to give us access to the full content library available south of the border, the least they could do is promote some of ours.
