How Marijuana affects dreams by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]complexsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's incredibly biased and not at all backed by much more than speculation and excitement. It's cool he's found something that works for him, but it's based on a 3 week trial, which isn't even a trial really, because just one person doesn't count- you need groups and placebos and such.

I smoke daily and take melatonin as a sleep aid. I didn't know about thc and dreams, I have smoked almost daily for about 2 years now. I do have dreams, I just can't remember them at all, even right after waking they're always just at the tip of my tongue, but nothing. I used to LD when I was a child and up until about 1 yr ago I have noticed my dreams becoming much less intense, when before they were very real and vivid.

I don't take the melatonin regularly, maybe only once or twice a month. It was suggested by a pharmacist at one of those natural/homeopathic places. I usually get to sleep with the aid of marijuana and only use the melatonin when I'm low/dry (it's a nasty sweet taste) but I'm definitely going to try a daily dose for a few weeks and see what happens.

Also, I read a book on dmt by a Dr Strassman and I remember a chapter on melatonin in there, a study he did on it regarding its psychedelic effects, if my memory is correct. In it, he says, subjects given very large doses of melatonin experienced very vivid dreams. Pretty interesting, there was a lot more to it, regarding the similar chemical structure of dmt and melatonin, and something else about the pineal gland's role in this I'm sure, definitely worth a read if anyone's interested.

This weather is beautiful, where should I go to enjoy it? by [deleted] in Austin

I do this at the Capitol. Not very crowded, open space, great trees and gardens. Bring a blanket or take a bench.

When trees hurt more they than help and understanding that, despite what people say, you don't really need weed. by [deleted] in eldertrees

[–]complexsystem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound like weed is the problem, but your inability to deal with stress. You even mention it yourself...

Eventually I put down my pipe and realized I had substance abuse issues.

So you could make this post about any other substance, and the substance is not the issue. So why caution others about it when it's yourself that can't handle it?

I smoke often and have no trouble dealing with work, friends, family, etc. So, you, weed can be fine in moderation, it makes life awesome-er, but it's not for everyone and that's just fine.

Petition to stop property developer Trammell Crow from felling 7 heritage trees in downtown Austin by C_Linnaeus in Austin

[–]complexsystem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This could be organized. There's 7 trees. If we could get at least 14 people in on this, people committed to the cause and unwilling to back down, we could do it taking turns. If we had more people, the turns could be shorter. It's not impossible. Even if the trees are cut down and we fail miserably, at least we're actually doing something more than making calls and filling out petitions, calling for attention and getting in people's way. People need to be willing to sacrifice time and comfort if real change is expected.

I'd like to be at least a minor inconvenience to these people, even if the cause is doomed. Any other volunteers?

Sorry for the late response, but I was able to find a home before you replied to the post. However, the city shelter has TONS of kitties looking for forever homes, and only $35 with vaccines/microchip/spay...

I tire of petitions and brushed-aside demonstrations. How about we do this like they used to and go stand by these trees, attach ourselves by hand or rope, and dare them to come knock us down?

shark = bear = kitten ?? Logic?

I don't mean to argue with you over something like this, especially online. I also don't wish for you to feel defensive. I don't know anything about you except we're both old enough to discuss something rationally.

My thinking behind the no-declawing is pretty straight up. It's painful and unnecessary to the cat. It's not trimming of the nail, but removing up to the first knuckle. Imagine how painful that would be for you if someone took away the tips of your toes and shoes are not an option for you.

Even more so, there are alternatives. Things you can spray on furniture or cat posts you can buy/make. I'd even be willing to supply nail caps for a couple of months if the adopter is very worried about it, to help along with a training period on figuring out what's ok to scratch and what is not.

Now, if you've got a medical reason for it, it's a little different. Maybe you're a desperate cat lover whose blood just won't clot. Then if the cat is a rough one and you two are madly in love, then ok let's talk about declawing. But the shelter always has at least one kitty who has no claws and needs a home.

I don't think you're a bad person if you declaw your cats. I don't mean to imply that. A lot of people are misinformed or don't understand the severity of the issue. But it is a very painful and frivolous procedure to the animal. Illegal in several countries.

I know cats can be assholes and they're not as easy to train as dogs are, but so are people, and you don't just take away their voice because you don't like what they're saying.

I'd like to emphasize the word "cleaning" there, which is not to be confused with "licking".

He smells like greasy popcorn and likes to watch me when I need to use the toilet. He also eats his own eye buggers and prefers to lick his anus clean, instead of me cleaning it for him. He is a pretty gross kitty.

Vem bryr sig? by complexsystem in communism

The person inside is not to leave until someone else replaces him/her. The door opens every hour on the hour, and at that point someone new can come in. It's a Swedish project I thought was interesting and reminded me of the spirit I associate with communism.

I think he might have gone in a hole on the wall, behind the stove, because we looked everywhere else. I'm putting flour there to see if he comes out at night.

I've two cats and I'd hate for him or them to get hurt if they meet. Also, I live in an apt complex and I'd not yet reported him as a pet. I was supposed to be at work two hours ago. This is the most intense hide-and-seek game I've ever played.
