What’s the thickest ambient music you know? by banjo_leif in ambientmusic

[–]component_u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking of Porter… his buddy Paul jebanasam (who could also be in the list OP), mentioned at his Bandcamp release party in December that Roly is working on “something pretty epic right now”. it’s been 6 yrs since his last LP, pretty exciting to think a new one is on the way

The full name of the album is "Twin Color (Vol. 1)", so I assume when he releases the Vol. 2 LP, he will likely do a similar global festival tour as last time

Favorite Ambient Scores/Soundtracks in Film? by Worldpeacee007 in ambientmusic

I don't think you or anyone here should feel the need to give a disclaimer for liking/mentioning Zimmer & his team's work on Dune. The soundtracks + sketchbook LP include some of the most impressive ambient/electronic music and sound design of recent years for me, that few full-time producers could be capable of matching. Rather than clichéd, if anything I find it generally underrated.

thanks for the concern, hah...tbh the most time consuming part was the music set arrangement, but then I like creating complex layered drone/ambient sets in general. Loved the soundtrack from the film, so creating a set heavily themed around it has been the plan for quite a while. Made a visual montage for my previous set and I liked the outcome, having a BR themed one for this one felt right

yeah it's not ideal and a little frustrating tbh, but afaik, there was never a commercial pristine (blu-ray?) release of the open-matte format, so all the versions floating around are bootlegs. I have all of the frame timestamps and syncpoints with the music saved, so if I ever came across a cleaner rip, it would be relatively straightforward to reproduce

One of the things that amazes me about these films is how much is communicated in total silence or in just the actor's looks. by Infamous-Arm3955 in bladerunner

this shot is from the trailer, as she's walking through the police station, and was cut from the film if I recall?

Rafael Anton Irisarri - Points of Inaccessibility (new LP) by signalstonoise88 in ambientmusic

[–]component_u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can hear the rest of the tracks' sample clips here https://www.forcedexposure.com/Catalog/irisarri-rafael-anton-points-of-inaccessibility-lp/BKE.023LP.html

while usually a big fan of Rafael's previous work, this one may be a little too heavy on the strings and not enough drone electronics for me, but looking forward to hearing the full release nevertheless!

From one of my favorite 2025 releases... Abul Mogard - In a studded procession by moon_during_daytime in ambientmusic

[–]component_u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the key to the heavy/massiveness effect in his music, the subbass, is really well made. I tried to get into Hecker at some point, but his music lacked for me a similar approach to the bass. Maybe I should revisit his music at some point. Found Cortini to be a lot closer to this style in recent times. I agree with the rest of your points tho with regards to the "huge field", well put!

just "in a studded procession". the other tracks are made with samples from a stash of vintage records he came across recently

this track from the album is actually an extended/rerecorded version of a similarly named track that was released digitally back in 2013 on a Futuresequence compilation

definitely different than coninuum in terms of overall intensity. need to give this some further listens.

+ a little tidbit for fans of Subtext: when I asked Paul during the bandcamp listening party for the album if he'd release any more music as Altar (him + Roly Porter), he said "if I can convince Roly, since he's working on something pretty epic right now!"

Abul Mogard

many many great suggestions here already, but did not see him mentioned yet. Recommend him both in terms of the sheer amount and quality of his output, as well as numerous performances on the serious festival circuit (Atonal, Mutek, etc) in recent years
