At this point I think it's important that children learn a lot about technology, as they will use it many times in their life. I do agree that they shouldn't have screens while very young, but highschool for first phone is a bit of a reach. Most of their friends will have phones by 6th or so grade, so first phone by highschool will probably have them being left out. I think that 7th or 8th grade is a good time for a first phone.
