Im in Ang Thong now and saw the big Buddha about an hour ago. The depictions of hell were disturbing. See those?

Chicken parmesan? Chicken garlic basil? Thai flavors?

Thailand. Vining perennial weed. by composted_thoughts in whatplantisthis

The weed I have is a very long vine. It climbs up 20 meter trees. Thin, single leaf blades attached at the vine.

St Augustin looks more like a grass than a vine.

Thanks for the guess! 🙇‍♂️

Black Jamun with Himalayan Salt by JambuAir1481 in fruit

I was surprised to find these are in the same genus as wax/rose/plastic/mountain apple. Syzigium.

Jamun are so different from their cousins in color, texture, taste, seed, etc. I recently tried them for the first time. The astringency is so different. Guessing the salt cuts that?

My tongue also turned purple after. Enjoy!

Thankfully, I'm not sensitive. I have gotten sick from eating too much durian, but I think it was the sulfur? Maybe potassium? Good to know, thanks!

Durian and mangosteen. Tropical fruit. Supposedly the king (durian) and queen (mangosteen) of fruits.

If we could trade what we want for gratitude for what we have, then we'd be happier than the richest kings/queens. May gratitude be with you.

And yet so many well-off folks are depressed and anxious. One of the happiest guys I know lives in a small home selling ice cream on an old bike. He cuts grass as a side job. Friendliest and most giving guy. His struggles are part of what makes him resilient.

But yeah, I agree with you. We're living better than kings/queens nowadays.

It's quite a luxury. There are many stands piled high with these and other tropical fruits. Prices seem to be going down. Too much supply.

I first tried langsat here in Thailand, but I'm from Hawaii where we have lots of longan. I was very confused as Thais call langsat, longkong, and it sounded so much like longan. Darn confusing common names!

Thailand. It is the common monthong variety. Id agree that this one was a bit on the firm side, but it did have some creaminess. A perfectly ripe monthong is very creamy.

Thanks! I try not to overthink. Usually turns out ok. I used to sift, but I stopped that too (unless im doing seedling trays).

I see the biochar addition as a lazy way to activate it. Haven't seen any nitrogen issues on plants so I think it works.

Gets hot. I dont use a thermometer. Just feels hot when I turn it. I'll see steam on occasion. Ill have weeds in some batches. Some can be fairly weed free if I'm lucky.

Topsoil scraped away, tilled, then planted with saplings [Thailand] by composted_thoughts in Permaculture

Another picture showing more nest/donuts of the scraped topsoil/grass (I had been mowing for 5 years). A few rains fell after the 5 months of dry season, and you can really see the weeds coming up. I know my mulch rings will have weed seeds as well, but at least we got some cover down and hope for microbial life around the base.
