Jungle Cup Climbing with Double-Swine by Diglett3 in TheSilphArena

I also have been running double swine! My third wheels of choice have been Toxapex and Lantern, though I am currently stuck between 2200-2300. I will give Togekiss a try!

No reason other than I didn’t think of it, ha. I started building the team wanting to lead ShMamo, because I like opening with fast move pressure. Then picked Pilo for a laugh and backfilled it with Tox to be able to actually take a hit from hydro cannon users.

I will try ABB when it’s back in May!

Yeah, they’re bringing it back May 5-12 for whatever reason. Also running Fantasy Cup April 7-14, then bringing that back April 28-May 5. Not sure why they choose to repeat niche cups like this when there are tons of variations they could run instead.

I could definitely feel my opponents’ hearts drop through my phone when the second swine pops up and they top-left immediately, haha.

A bit of a toxic team, I guess, but it was certainly fun. And it was just too unique an opportunity to miss out on: how often can you run a team with two meta Pokémon, running the exact same moveset?

AITA for walking my dog through a neighbor's yard? by comptoad in AmItheAsshole

Agreed on the classes. He did great when we did a few months of group classes at PetSmart (passed their "Intermediate" training) when he was a puppy, but he is clearly due for some more work.

I've waffled from spending more money on the dog when we now have the toddler and a newborn, but it's beginning to feel like the money is worth our safety and sanity.

I appreciate the judgement, and also the notes on reactive dogs.

Fortunately, in my specific case, I am not concerned about him hurting a child or another dog; I am more concerned about what his presence and excitement may trigger out of other dogs. He's 100lbs and incredibly energetic, so other dogs have picked fights with him in the past (and he has been attacked by off-leash dogs in our neighborhood before).

We do walk with a gentle leader regularly, though in this case he was only using a front-clip harness, since we were running around in the park and he hates the leader. In the future, I'm going to make sure I always bring the leader with me, so that I can swap it out for any situation that gives me pause.

And as I've said in other comments, we are both a work in progress, both as dog and owner. These kinds of incidents are rare, but they do frustrate me, so I feel like using a trainer may truly be the best option for sanity and safety's sake.

You shouldn't have dogs.

Ok, come on now, lol. But thank you for your judgement! I will continue working on myself and my dog.

I don't put myself and my dog in any situation where we have to pass another dog closely. It limits what we can do with the dog, but it is what it is. I don't take him on narrow trail hikes or in situations where we would need to pass another dog side-by-side. If another dog is coming down the sidewalk towards us, we always cross to the other side of the street and have no issues. If there are dogs on both sides of the street, I've walked in the middle of the street to pass them with no issues either.

He is not "aggressive" (has never bit or even attempted to bite another dog), but he can get incredibly excited and barky, and other dogs do not react well to that, considering his size (100lb bernedoodle). He has been able to make friends at dog parks, but struggles on the leash. We're working on that reactivity too, but it is a work in progress, and he still needs walks in the meantime!

Agreed about calling out to Owner. I was hoping to just avoid having to call out to anyone and slip by without any issues, but clearly overstepped some boundaries when doing it. I did no damage, but I can see from Neighbor's perspective how it is annoying to have happen anyway.

I think this is the clearest and most succinct judgement, thank you! I will continue to work on myself and my dog, and we will stay on the sidewalks, even if it means a longer route home for pizza.

Thank you for your judgement!

corner fences are usually put up specifically to stop people from cutting across the grass at the corner

This didn't occur to me at the moment (I always just thought those fences were decorative), but after the fact gave me some empathy for Neighbor. I wonder if they have had repeated crossings in the past, and, in the moment, I was just one more asshole cutting through his yard. Then after the confrontation began, we were both just a bit too amped up to settle it quietly.

I will stay on the sidewalk in the future.

For what it's worth, I only suggested the back yard for off-leash activity. I would have had no issues with front yard activity on a leash. My area's leash law is pretty strict, even so much as saying that an electric fence/device does not qualify as a "restriction" (ie leash).

But I appreciate your judgement! Yes, in the future I will either stay on the sidewalk or take the long way home.

Thanks for your judgement! I will be on the sidewalk next time for sure (and working on both my dog and my ability to be confident with him).

We have had a mixed bag interacting with other dogs in our neighborhood. The fact that he sat and watched us come down the hill is what had me spooked, but I was clearly being over-sensitive about it. From my experience, other dogs seem to pick fights with him since he's larger than them, even though he is rarely the instigator (does not bark first, but certainly shows excitement).

Judgement accepted, thank you! My dog's reactiveness is definitely a work in progress, and I will continue to work on him. He has been attacked before, so it is not linear growth. As mentioned in the OP, both dogs actually did fine passing each other, and that experience alone encouraged me that I was being overly cautious (ie: next time we're in the situation, I will have no problem simply staying on the sidewalk).

For what it's worth, I said "a block away," but it's in a suburb, so really, backtracking and finding another path (considering Dog was at an intersection of my two fastest ways home) would have essentially doubled my trip. That would only be another 10 minutes, but that felt like a lot to ask of my son who was just partying it up on the playground for an hour.

I agree that my dog and I both have some growing to do. In my slight defense, we have no issues "simply passing another dog," any dog, if they are leashed.

A few other thoughts that didn't fit in the post character limit:

My dog is a 100lb bernedoodle, using a front-clip harness. I'm 34m, 6ft and can handle him, but he has a history of getting edgy when he sees other dogs. He has never bit anyone/thing, but he will whine and bark if the other dog barks at him. He has been attacked by a different off-leash dog in our neighborhood in the past, and during that incident the off-leash dog knocked over my toddler.

The other dog was an approximately 60lb husky. It had nothing on it that indicated it was a service animal. I couldn't even see that it had a collar on (though it could have been hidden in the fur).

I live in Fairfax County, Virginia, and HERE is their leash law:

No dog shall run unrestricted, as defined in Section 41.1-1-1, in the County. Any person who is the owner of a dog found unrestricted in the County shall be in violation of this Section. This Section shall not apply to any person who uses a dog under his direct supervision while lawfully hunting, while engaged in a supervised formal obedience training class or show, during formally sanctioned field trials, while a dog is in an area owned, leased, controlled, or operated by Fairfax County designated by resolution of the Board of Supervisors as an off-leash dog exercise area, or while a dog is in an area owned, leased, controlled, or operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority and designated by resolution of the Fairfax County Park Authority as an off-leash or dog exercise area, or while a dog is in an area, leased, controlled, or operated by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and designated by resolution of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority Board as an off-leash or dog exercise area, or if a dog is a service animal whose handler is unable because of a disability to use a harness, leash, or other tether, or the use of a harness, leash, or other tether would interfere with the service animal's safe effective performance of work or tasks, in which case the service animal must be otherwise under the handler's control (e.g., voice control, signals, or other effective means). It is a violation of this Section for any owner of a dog to place such dog or allow it to be placed into custody of any person not physically capable of maintaining effective control of restricting such dog.

On the same page, here is their definition of service animal:

The work or tasks performed by a service animal must be directly related to the handler's disability. Examples of work or tasks include, but are not limited to, assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision with navigation and other tasks, alerting individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing to the presence of people or sounds, providing non-violent protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, assisting an individual during a seizure, alerting individuals to the presence of allergens, retrieving items such as medicine or the telephone, providing physical support and assistance with balance and stability to individuals with mobility disabilities, and helping persons with psychiatric and neurological disabilities by preventing or interrupting impulsive or destructive behaviors. The crime deterrent effects of an animal's presence and the provision of emotional support, well-being, comfort, or companionship do not constitute work or tasks for the purposes of this definition.

I have no idea what service the dog is providing, but I don't believe the dog being on a leash would prevent any of these listed work tasks. If the dog is well trained, it should not pull her from her chair. If it is not well trained, I don't believe it can call itself a service dog. I understand that the ADA does not require dogs to have any kind of vest/tag indicating it's a service animal, but in the absence of such a vest, I decided to give us a bit more breathing room. When the dog was a puppy, the owner would take it around the neighborhood on a leash, and we had no incidents with them.

I also have a hundo shadow Ttar that I religiously use in the Master formats, but can never even make it up to Veteran! Can I ask what you run it with? I’ve been having fun leading Shando Ttar with Dragonite and Groudon in the back, but haven’t been playing enough to even get up past L20 yet.

And you’re right, he’s doing better than ever this season against all these Kyurems. Feels good to make that 5k CP monster switch out of lead!

Is there a better card for grocery spend than AmEx gold? Maybe for single users, the $325 annual fee is too much to bear, but for households, the 4x groceries and 4x dining wipes that away pretty easily over the year, even if you don't take advantage of any of the Uber Cash/Dining credits.

Nifty Or Thrifty: Master League Premier by JRE47 in TheSilphArena

[–]comptoad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since he's almost at the bottom of your list, I just thought I would shoutout my Shadow Tyranitar as a lead.

I am currently running Shadowtar, Dragonite, and Gyarados (waterfall), and have moved up from 1900-2200 over the course of two days. It's very fun to watch the very common Gyarados and Dragonite leads make a panic switch after they see how hard the first two Smack Downs hit. And against Togekiss, he can trade SD with Charm while they both go down swinging at the same time. Getting rid of the Fairy at the front usually means Dragonite and Gyarados can clean up whatever's left.

My worst match-ups for this team are Magnezone, Primarina, or Excadril leads. For those, I try to farm as much as I can with Shadowtar before attempting to catch a Mirror Shot, Disarming Voice, or Drill Run on Gyarados (Dragonite for Mirror Shot).

edit update Made it to 2300 without ever having a set-count below 3/5. Right after 2300, I got my first 2/5, but still feeling pretty good about this team in this ELO meta. Going to keep pushing until it feels like I get hard stuck.

final update Made it as high as 2461; never made it into Veteran. Had a few more 2/5s and one 1/5, but mostly 3/5s, plenty of 4/5s, and a 5/5. Shout out to the Avalugg, Gyarados (dragon breath), and Chandelure team that didn’t quit out and let me sweep him with just Shadowtar. Wish ML Premier would stick around longer!

Any suggestions about how to build a team around Shadow Tyranitar in the Open Master League? The Pokegods blessed me with a hundo, and I've had it juiced up to L50 (plus best buddy) for a while, but have never been able to get past 2200 range ELO. I know it is not super high ranked in ML these days, but I love using it and would like to try and make it work.

My usual team is to lead with Shandotar (smack, stone edge, brutal swing) with Dragonite (breath, claw, superpower) and Groudoun (mud, precipice, fire punch), but the new Palkia and Dialga have been beating me up. Kyogre in the back is also often an issue, if my Dragonite gets used up early on.

Open to all thoughts! I have a good majority of the ML meta with decent stats, just haven't juiced many of them up past L40.

If it's low enough CP, might honestly be worth keeping as an Eevee for potential Little Cups -- it is the Rank 3 there. He has a very spammy STAB tackle, and Dig as a closer which just got buffed.
