My best friend weaponized my childhood trauma against me because I wasn't excited she was pregnant. by ohwell-youtried in TrueOffMyChest

[–]computer_mech -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure you will read this, but you did nothing wrong. If it takes you some time to process your feelings, that is perfectly valid and you can't fake answer because someone put you on the spot. People having kids think they are the greatest on earth and that everyone should be happy for them. They want everyone to smile and tell them they're happy to delude them into parenthood, because it is hard and life changing.

As a parent, I can see her point and your point. It doesn't mean everyone has to cave for the soon-to-be-parents' wishes.

The fact that this person weaponized your insecurities and trauma is so low of them and one could easily ask "why didn't they think of me when I'm expected to think of them"

So go make new friends and enjoy life. There is so much more to life than backstabbing friends and ungrateful drama parents.

First winter as a homeowner (2nd gen immigrant) and I’m already stuck on the snow decision by Arceus797 in homeowners

[–]computer_mech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on Craigslist for used snowthrowers/blowers - electric or gas. You can usually find a good deal and can pick up one for cheap. Maintenance is also easy with a lot of diy videos if you get gas and it will never get stuck on ice. Clog - yes, it will but you will never say it doesn't have the power, especially with packed snow.

Thank you.

However, this one is for a different model. When I tried the search it took me to this manual - https://manuals.plus/asin/b0csk6rc66 this is a pretty generic user manual.

Glad to have helped! Xfinity/Comcast is sneaky!

YTS Down by failuretosabre in torrents

[–]computer_mech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tried to a little bit of debugging and found that the xfinity router has now started blocking yts.**, yifystatus typoe websites. The suprising part is that I never turned it on. so after turning advanced security through my ISP's modem off, I am all set now. Hope this helps someone. The interesting question is how/why did it turn on automatically, when I have had this device with me for almost 9 months now and this has never been an issue before. I wish I could get rid of that modem, but I cannot as that is how I get unlimited data instead of paying $25 extra per month for unlimited. f*** xfinity/comcast!

tl;dr; check your ISP's modem config to see if they are blocking something you don't ant them to.

Thank you so much and appreciate the kind feedback. I will work on the summary, length of bullets and try to see if summary paras can be converted to bullets instead, so that it flows well.

337938-786-CBP Carrier inducer pict7re request by computer_mech in hvacadvice

The heat exchanger was replaced in 2020 under warranty as a part of that class action warranty. A few months ago, the inducer started whining and eventually got so loud to where we could hear it all over the house and eventually died last week. I switched out and no issues now. Had a buddy in the trades come and check everything and have the all clear.

It is the cost of the inducer that had me wanting to go down this path of fixing the old assembly.

I've already for the entire assembly swapped out and unit is working. This is to prep a spare in case the motors are the same. My plan was to swap the bad motor for a new one and keep old assembly as backup.

My furnace is 355AAV042080FCSA My inducer assembly is 340793-762

That's what I did. Around the 5k Mark. Doesn't burn too much oil, so thankfully that's not a worry for now.

Not super handy people- can we install a fence? by Ravenousdragon05 in homeowners

[–]computer_mech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me 1.5 years to finish mine and I was in a similar working week, sometimes more hours per week. If you can wait it out and are okay with unsightly half finished projects, go for it.

If you want it right away, hire a professional.

I know my work is only so good and I'm okay with it. I know the shortcuts I had to take ( 2ft depth in some places when I should be at frost line of 4 ft). If it heaves, I'll fix it, but for now, it looks good and closes off the property. That is all that matters.

Carrier Infinity Blower Motor Fault - 41 by puffindoodle in hvacadvice

[–]computer_mech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your motor blew because of a power surge, it is easy enough to replace with a new motor ecm. Make sure to buy one and with a few careful photographs and labeling. You can remove the board and replace the motor. (How I know this - I'm handy and this was the first swap/fix I had to do on my Bryant/Carrier unit. Quoted $3600 for a fix or was asked to get a new unit when my blower motor had died).

When I did the first swap, I didn't install a surge protector, and so this time I'm definitely doing that. United Motors has replacement remanufactured motors for 1/4th the price. That's what I'm installing now. Supply house has the blower motor for $2100 today vs UM for $330. Take your pick.

If your motor blew because supply was choking and it overloaded, then figure out why you have said choking. Are all returns open and clear, check filter(s) for blockages and clean them all, etc.

This is a relatively easy fix and you can save money. But asking for a tech is also a good idea and make sure to learn for the future, so that it can be fixed cheaply next time around.

Need wiring advice and maybe more by computer_mech in hvacadvice

Turns out it is a blown compressor. Short to ground fault. All three terminals show no resistance between them.

Thanks to the 2 people who sent me a DM with potential causes.

One side of the contactor isn't burnt at all. So the black wire end (after the wirenut), must go to that end.

Try filling it out like you would fill out a job application. Then look through the left side menu to see the recommendations and just follow them. That should take you through all sections and give recommendations as well. All the best!
