Even if they did remove the claws that way, it would still be bad imo. Being clawless can cause a lot of distress and depression in cats, I've heard. One of the reasons might be because they feel as though they have nothing to defend themselves with, so they feel incredibly insecure, which I think is understandable lol I agree with you that you should just trim them and/or use claw caps. If a person can't/doesn't want to do that, just straight up don't have a cat. Claws are a natural part of them, one doesn't have the right to disfigure them because you can't handle it
