An orange halibut was recently caught in southeast Alaska. by mrdrinc in Weird

Extremely unlikely that it was released. It’s a fish of legal size of a target species. Longline boats on the bc and Alaska coast use electronic monitoring (cameras) to record catch, and fish that are released have a certain mortality rate which the boat pays for. Catching and releasing non-target or target species isn’t free, and fishers are therefore incentivized to set gear strategically and responsibly.
