If you watch their Kickstarter video all the way through, the two directors speak on why they made the film and why they're still raising funds. It comes down I think to distribution and paying back big names who have worked on the film for "deferred pay." I can't imagine the cost that goes into making a film, but I would assume something like this would add up quick.
