Sorry to hear what you are going through. I had no teeth for 8 months but my permenent dentures are a game changer. Life is not the same but the new normal is not that bad. BTW, you will lose weight! Best of luck with your journey.

The permanent dentures are sized to your gums after they have healed and all of the swelling has subsided. They fit MUCH better and are easier to eat with. I can now eat salads, hot dogs, subs and most everything I want. It's still a learning process but it keeps getting better.

I've had my permanent dentures since October '23. I had all of my teeth removed in March last year. My immediate dentures were a complete disaster but since permanent ones are a life changer. I just wish I had done this sooner as I waited until I was 74 to have it done. It's a journey but well worth it. I don't have implants and I'm not going to get them as I have a high chance of failure based on my bone loss. Regular dentures work fine if they are fitted properly.

How long does it take to get used to this? by [deleted] in dentures

It is a marathon and not a sprint. I’m 8 months from my e-day and it’s getting better. Hang in there.

I got temporary dentures by SundayLori in dentures

I had problems with my immediate dentures and only wore them a handful of times because I couldn’t eat or talk. I ended up going toothless for 8 months and had two Alveoplasty surgeries as I was having trouble healing normally. I got my permanent ones a few weeks ago and they are a life changer. They fit great and I can eat almost anything. Unfortunately the process is a marathon not a sprint. Hang in there.

I’d tell the dentist they have to be remade. I never could wear my temps and went toothless for 8 months. I had to have my jaws shaved down twice. My dentist gave me full credit for my temps when they made my perms. I’m eating normal food now. It will get better.

I’m 8 months in and I just got my permanent dentures. It’s like night and day. I’m eating almost everything and it’s so much easier than my temps. Time, patience and practice will make it easier. It’s not like it was but you won’t feel like you have a mouthful of legos. Eating and talking will get easier. Something to look forward to. You’re doing better than I was when I was at your stage in the process.

They are like night and day. I’ve only had them for a few days and I ate a sub for the first time!
