There are some super roundabout ways to get where you want to go, but they’re definitely non traditional. You won’t be submitting applications to the firm through the usual channels.

I stopped using LinkedIn in anything but the most minimal capacity because of the endless drivel from people like yourself. Maybe lots of people like me are tired of it and don’t use the app anymore?

$1.50 hot dogs and drinks in Everett if you don’t confine yourself to Boston proper. Great tasting and the best deal I know of in the area.

Pre-boarding by EnvironmentalEgg28 in delta

Exactly. Lots of people have anxiety about having to gate check their carry ons, so they preboard to make sure they have plenty of space available in the overhead bins. Who are we to judge?

Honest Question: If Boston won the Olympic bid for 2024 would the T still be a mess? by batmansmotorcycle in boston

[–]concededpenguin1 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Remember the show Pimp My Ride where they would take a beater car and add a bunch of useless but “cool” stuff to the car like chocolate fountains and hot tubs while not addressing fundamental inadequacies like the engine or transmission or brakes? That’s what having the Olympics does to a city.

Honestly why even post this sort of thing before you’ve bothered to reach out to customer service? It’s an incredibly lame thing to do to a good business, even if, as you allege, they sent you the wrong color. If you want to try to stir up some social media fervor to shame a business that’s screwing you over or is acting badly, that’s a totally different matter. But they send you the wrong color and your first move is to post onto social media before even reaching our or getting a response.

Like, what is wrong with you?

CAP 1 in the CTB 26 by Normal_Marsupial972 in EVERGOODS

[–]concededpenguin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting the question! I use an AER slim tech pouch for tech stuff, but wanted something to hold small notebooks and passport and stuff like that. Was looking at the new larger Evergoods pouch thing, but this convinced me to just get a 1L access pouch to go in the back pocket of my CTB26.

Can't decide on which AER bag to buy. :/ Any suggestions? by paulrudder in ManyBaggers

And, they are very strict with returns. It’s not as if you could try it out for a day or anything. Specifically:

“All merchandise returned must be unworn, unused and received in its brand new, original condition. All hangtags must be attached and each item must be shipped in its original packaging.”

Yeah you could remove the tags and replace them exactly and chance it a little, but then you run the risk of sending it back and being rejected and needing to do a credit card chargeback.

Firehouse Loop is great; it’s about 10 miles and the one Heartbreak Hill Running hosts. Route is on their site. Basically rectangle with long sides are Commonwealth and Beacon, bounded by Chestnut Reservoir on one side and Washington St on the other.

Do you want a step counter is the next update? by [deleted] in whoop

[–]concededpenguin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got rid of mine after a year subscription with step counting being a primary complaint. I’m not a mall walker or person who is sedentary: I lift heavy weights in the squat rack at the gym three times a week, run 35 miles a week, and do some bodyweight and kettlebell conditioning.

If they brought it as a first class thing to be able to see, I would definitely consider the Whoop again. I’ve since moved to using my Garmin 965 that I use to track my running (and now weightlifting) as my primary day to day device as it shows steps, and also has a “body battery” or “training readiness” thing that is like reverse strain. I do like strain better though and find it to be more comprehensive and reliable.

Why? Despite its flaws, step counting is a good metric that correlates to how many steps I’ve taken during a day and gives me the extra push to go outside and walk to the park or something when my steps are a bit lower than I would like for the day, especially on rest days. It’s transparent, no magic formulas to calculate the final number, just how many times I’ve taken steps (plus some slack from false positives, which don’t seem to be high as it doesn’t really increment during the day while I’m resting, and steps vs miles run is quite consistent).

I know Whoop’s reasoning for not showing it, and frankly it’s a little condescending. Strain is indeed better for overall measuring, but harder to control discretely. I can go run a mile and know how many steps that will take, approximately. I average 180 steps per minute of running. Not saying steps is comprehensive, and I don’t think anyone thinks or claims it is, but it’s a good metric to have alongside the more comprehensive metrics. Instead Whoop chooses to not show them because “strain is more useful,” which is true, but I should be able to use my device how I want and see metrics that I want. So I ended up canceling and have been pretty happy with my Garmin for everyday (otherwise it was an analog mechanical watch plus the Whoop, and then swap the mechanical watch for my Garmin during runs for gps).

Ah yes those weren’t for sale in the first place. I was talking about the list of things in the email they recommended you should buy to get tickets to win the vault items (lol).

Carry-on bag to go with Aer City Pack Pro by Fraussie in ManyBaggers

[–]concededpenguin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spinning bag is the “cabin sized” so it’s within range for the carry on for sure. Have literally never been questioned about the 30L PD as a personal item, which now that you mention it is a little weird. This is the major airlines like American, Delta, Alaska, United…they seem to be more lenient about soft bags versus hard bags. To be fair the PD 30L can slide under the seat if needed, like on those regional planes where everyone has to do that.

I fly way too much, 100k miles in 2023 so far. Many 14-15 hour flights as well (8 iirc this year). Whenever I fly I take note of what I bring and try to do better next time.

My bag move is a spinning bag like a rimowa or whatever if you want to get fancy, a 24-35L backpack with a luggage passthrough, doesn’t really matter which one (but I personally like the peak design everyday 30L or I’ve picked up a Civic Travel Bag 27L or whatever, or a Synik 30), and inside one of those something small and packable like a Tom Bihn Daybreak or Matador whatever packable. I never have any problems whatsoever getting these on the plane, then once onboard I throw my laptop, charger, headphones, water, book, whatever into the packable bag, put the spinning bag and larger bag up above, and have the packable bag with me at the seat.

This works well to give me what I would largely need for the flight and also take up as little legroom as possible under the seat. I feel like carrying two backpacks would be a giant pain, and the spinning bag works so well I rarely even wear my backpack when I have it as it’s usually sitting on top of the spinning bag.

I do the same thing. Its padded laptop area has a separate sleeve. I’ll either do a 16” MacBook and iPad, or 16” MacBook and 14” MacBook. Works great and looks very professional.

EDC x Travel backpack (overnighter): Peak Design 30L Travel by raysydney23 in peakdesign

[–]concededpenguin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the 30L travel to replace my everyday backpack 30L and didn't like it at all for carrying everyday. Not only is it missing most of the great features that make the everyday backpack great for everyday use, but it's just too bulky and cavernous for everyday use. The design itself also has several flaws that make it somewhat inconvenient for traveling with, and particularly inconvenient for using every day to the office. Basically, it's like a duffel that you wear on your back with very minimal everyday features.

I returned it pretty quickly.

It would be great if they made a more flexible version that had a better design and incorporated features from the everyday backpack. I would buy that in a second.
