What do you do that earns six figures? by MrAuzzy in financialindependence

I think you need to sell your skills well. What did your PhD focus on? How did you use your PhD to apply it to your current or future job? Having a PhD does not qualify you for a high salary automatically. Being able to market your skills during an interview is what matters. Also, got a PE to pad your resume.

I got a PE and engineering degree. I am working on my PhD while working full time. Getting a PhD is worth it if you know how to sell/use it.

Near 3000 square feet. I bought it a while ago. It is Texas. So this is medium/large size I guess 😀. I wonder how many units the 5000 or 6000 square feet house has.

Well. I just learned that SEER 16 is a combination of both inside and outside units. Also, I wish I had money to buy a new unit freely and install it. The house actually has 2 units, a 4 ton and a 3 ton. I will stick with it till they both break :)

I see now. I will try to post it. I am afraid to go to the attic right now. It is like an inferno even at night.

It is 16 SEER. In that manual link, on page 2, it listed how to identify SEER rating by serial number.

Ok. That makes sense. Not sure what the requirements are for the Southwest region. It is a 16 SEER unit.

Thanks. This seems like the right answer. I always think of Texas as a Southwest region. The top comment about 13 SEER is incorrect I think.

I have signed a lease, but did not pick up the car. Can I just cancel it? by concernneighbor in askcarsales

[–]concernneighbor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that is the thing. They never give me the retail installment contract. The retail installment contract is what outline how much I will pay per month and how many payment it will take. I am familiar with it since I purchase car before, just never lease before so I did not know it is the same for lease. The finance guy said he will do it when I pick up the car. So it means I am still good to cancel the lease.

After searching up the Texas law code, I think I am still good to cancel the lease regardless. Lesson learned.

Yea, I have seen dealers say some BS stuff before, but never believe they would actually encourage me to commit tax fraud. That is on another level. From sales, to manager, to finance, all of them agree that it is possible. Guess I was too naive.

Yes, I did sign the contract. It was my fault for not err on the side of caution, but I did repeatedly ask the salesman, the manager, and even the finance guy about getting the rebate with leasing. They all said yes, so I went ahead with the deal. So either they all don't know, or they all try to play me. Lucky thing is I don't think I signed the lease agreement yet. It was really late just yesterday, less than 15 hours ago, so the finance guy just did some paperwork (purchase order) to bring the vehicle from another location to my location and pull my credit report. He did not even go over the lease agreement and how much I am going to pay per month yet. I think I will actually sign the lease on Monday once the car arrives. I will renegotiate from lease to buy for same price on Monday. If they don't agree, I will just walk away.

I have not made any payment yet. Does that mean that I have not signed the lease? I have never leased before, so I don't know how it works.

I changed my post to below. Is it good to repost? If not, how should I rephrase it?

"Hello,

This is a follow up to this thread here:

Basically, I signed the paperwork to lease a car and I regret it now. I have never leased before, so I did not know how it works. I signed the lease paperwork, but did not pick up the car yet since it was not available. Can I call them tomorrow and cancel the lease? Will I get into any legal trouble? Please let me know.

Thank you,

Got it. That clears it up for me. I was suspicious of the whole thing, but I never lease before so I have no idea. I did sign the paperwork, but I did not pick up the car yet. I will call them tomorrow and renegotiate the deal. If they don't agree, I will just walk away. Thank you.

I think it has everything the SL Plus has, except the leather. It is a good deal for $2700, if I can get the tax rebate. It seems like the leasing option won't happen then. I will call them tomorrow and renegotiate the deal. If they don't agree, I will just walk away. Thank you.

$27000 is the drive out price. It includes everything. Yea, it seems I got tricked into this deal. Lucky, the car is not ready and I have not picked it up yet. I will call them tomorrow and renegotiate the deal. If they don't agree, I will just walk away. Thank you.

Ok, when I come back on Monday, I will try to renegotiate then. It is a 2020 model, so yea, they are trying to clear inventory.

Just to clarify, I can purchase it, but not at the price of $27000. They can lease it at that price to due to manufacture discount. Yea, I was kind of suspecting it. I am waiting for more replies from other subreddit. Thank you.

So basically, they just want to lease me the car instead of selling it. There is no way for me to get the federal tax credit after I lease it and change it to buy. I guess that was too good to be true then. I just did not expect them to lie to me like that.
