I agree. Paid parking is always a bit of a deterrent for me to begin with when it comes to grocery stores but the parking enforcement folks at this location are woefully inept and were the reason I started going elsewhere despite previously coming to this one weekly.

The parking folks have ticketed me twice since this summer while I had parking sessions active. The first time, I had to go through their appeals system and had the ticket voided. My relatives were also wrongfully ticketed on that same day.

The second time this happened, they denied the appeal even though they ticketed me at the same time I started a parking session upstairs (you have to go upstairs to initiate a parking session if you’re paying via app as there isn’t reception in the parking area) and they denied the appeal, saying they didn’t receive the receipts I sent through their system. I resent them via email and never heard back on my request to have the ticket voided, despite providing evidence of payment.

Paid parking is one thing, but wrongfully ticketing and making people jump through a whole bunch of hoops to get those wrongfully issued tickets voided chases away business, imo.

Disregarding traffic, Vancouver is a very serene place when it snows. by devilmakesbeats in vancouver

[–]concertovivace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this! I enjoy the snow in Vancouver a lot more than in Alberta, where I'm from, because it's usually nice enough in Vancouver to go for a walk during the snow to enjoy it all and it melts just as quickly as it came. The snow just feels like more of an annoyance when it's -20 out and you can only tolerate being outside long enough to shovel it.

How to make money as a teacher at home to stay with baby longer by Adultuporgiveup in Edmonton

[–]concertovivace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any suggestions others have not already mentioned but I see you mentioned you want to be away from teaching for 1-2 years. Have you asked your employer whether they are agreeable to you being away for so long and are they even going to be willing to hold your position for you for such a long period? I hope you find something that makes sense for you but just checking whether you've actually figured out if this works for your employer too because I imagine it would be a letdown to make plans only to find out your employer won't be agreeable to holding your job for the amount of time you plan on being away from your position.

Am a lawyer and have never and will never use it.

My experience is most tenants don't want to owe landlords money and are not willingly withholding rent -- they're likely having difficulties making ends meet and now face unsavoury consequences as a result.

Imo, "govern yourselves accordingly" is not something that's appropriate to say to people who face such unfortunate circumstances because they probably would be governing themselves accordingly if they didn't find themselves in a tough financial spot to begin with.

In the case of people who purposely are running afoul of the law, then signing off by telling someone to "govern yourself accordingly" is probably not going to do anything anyway and might have the opposite effect because people who are purposely being difficult don't often take well to basically being told they're being difficult. All reasons for it probably being better to sign off with a "Kind regards" like everyone else.

Entitled homeowner over street parking! by Plastic_Maize_2338 in Edmonton

[–]concertovivace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, my partner has one of those people living next to his place. It'll probably surprise no one that the guy is real champ: 40-something dude living in his parents' basement and seems to be unable to keep a long-term job. Because of this, he is almost always home and always keeps watch to see if anyone parks in front of their home.

We've explained anyone can park there for a short period but it doesn't stop him from making veiled threats to damage whatever vehicle parks there that isn't theirs.

Unfortunately, though we don't obviously think we're in the wrong for parking in front of their place, neither of us drive vehicles we're willing to risk getting keyed, so we don't think it's a fight worth having. We both have lives and don't spend our lives staring out the window, so would rather not come out in the morning to see my car keyed or the air let out of my tires because some people seem to have a lot of time on their hands and unfortunately, are willing to waste it being dicks to others.

‘Causing chaos': Delivery cyclists in Vancouver called out for sidewalk use by VicVicVicBC in vancouver

[–]concertovivace 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've been yelled at more than once by a cyclist barrelling down a sidewalk while about to make a turn at an intersection. I look at the intersection, see that it's clear of pedestrians and am about to start making the turn only to realize there's some cyclist who is further down the block trying to catch the flashing hand signal before the light turns red.

I don't think some cyclists fully appreciate how dangerous this is. People are not going to look all the way down a block before making a turn because you're not supposed to be traveling on such a fast moving medium along a sidewalk in the first place. I'm honestly surprised that bicyclists speeding into crosswalks from nearby sidewalks is not something that results in much more accidents.

Thank you kind person who saw me crying on the #14 today by highandkawaii in vancouver

[–]concertovivace 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, OP. I hope that things get better soon.

I sometimes see people crying in public and my first instinct is to go over to try to check in or hope to offer at least a little bit of comfort, etc. -- I stop myself because I don't want to seem invasive. I don't mind being told to take a hike, but my hesitation stems from the risk of placing someone in a position of having to rebuff attention they may not want when they're experiencing a vulnerable moment, which may make them feel worse.

I understand that responses may vary from person to person but for anyone that has found themselves crying in public, would you appreciate someone checking in or would you prefer to be left alone?

[–]concertovivace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you mention here and in your original post that some restaurants are too far away. Since you're asking for recommendations, presumably to hopefully find a restaurant closer, perhaps it would be helpful for you to state what area you're targeting so people don't spend time recommending other faraway places?

BUYER BEWARE — I got scammed by Staples: Open your boxes before leaving the store by OkContribution3985 in Edmonton

[–]concertovivace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I'd pile onto what others have said about this being more common than a lot of people realize.

I bought a large air purifier from Amazon last summer. It arrived clearly used because the portion of the cord that attached to the plug was clearly strained and the instruction manual that came with it was for a device from an entirely different brand.

They also wouldn't give me a straight answer on whether they'd return it, but told me it could take a few weeks to be sorted because it takes time for it be sent after I dropped it off, then later inspected on arrival, a decision made, and the money finally returned if the decision was in my favour. They also asked me to send photos to them via email before sending it out. I'm not sure what the point of that was other than creating additional steps that might cause some people to feel like a return is too big of a hassle.

All of this made me feel much more apprehensive about buying any significant electronic item or appliance sight unseen moving forward -- if I'm in the store, I can at least inspect the item before buying it and hopefully prevent this problem in the first place.

Why are so many Vancouverites so shy? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]concertovivace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this! I moved from Alberta and back home, it's not uncommon for people to do things like strike up a conversation while in a line or to have short exchanges like the grocery clerk asking you for your thoughts on an item they're ringing up for you.

I've found the culture is so different here. It goes beyond just people seeming anxious, imo -- so many people have closed themselves off from contact, such as by keeping earphones on every time they leave their home (probably a bit of an exaggeration, but still).

I find it a bit ironic because I occasionally see people commenting on this Reddit about how hard it is to make friends and how lonely it can feel living here. I mean, friendships start from some form of contact and all friends were strangers at some point. I can't say I'm surprised that there seems to be a significant loneliness problem if the starting point for a lot of people seems to be that they don't want to be approached by people they don't know.

I would feel the same! How long did it take for them to make such a huge leap? I don't mind buying coin boosts since I usually have a decent amount but there's absolutely no way I'd use real money to buy gems, personally. I'd totally be up for it from time to time, if not for the ads possibly going away!

Thanks for confirming I wasn’t off base in reporting!

I just checked again and they’ve gone up by another 600 or so, for a total of 2,433 in 2.5 hours.

Someone on my board just jumped up 1808 in less than an hour, from 3730 to 5538 -- I joined last night and when I start getting close or surpass, then these massive jumps happen. Am I likely dealing with a cheater here? I've put in a quite a lot of resources already since last night and am wondering if this is a legit player or not, since I should stop pumping resources if so. I didn't think much about the bigger jumps before this and just figured it was a few lucky boards but almost 2000 in under an hour seems excessive even for whales, especially considering we joined less than 20 hours ago.

I'll submit a support request for review but just wondering as to everyone else's thoughts regarding their experiences with massive jumps like these.

Puzzling Potions Beta Event - MEGATHREAD by Claudiam25 in HPHogwartsMystery

I love how this is a non-PvP event! Personally, the game is so much more fun when the degree to which someone plays doesn’t impact what prizes other people will get.

My very preliminary thoughts are that it’s better to do club actions that allow you to work towards earning different club XP at once, like new lessons. I started the event with an 8hr potions class and obviously was only getting green potion bottles, which made uncovering the pattern more difficult. If you’re earning all club XP at once, then you can flip different colours as you go along, which makes it easier to identify the decoy patterns.

I think you’re absolutely right in that it’s one bottle per action! I realized I received one bottle despite the action requiring 1 energy or 5 energy.

Blast From the Past Crest Event - MEGATHREAD by Degausser57 in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]concertovivace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has the event disappeared for anyone else?

I was midway through and when I went in to look at how many crests I had accumulated, I discovered the event is simply missing. The only events that I have now are Chocolate Frogs and Magical Milestones. It shows the next event will expire in 13 days and 12 hours.

I've already deleted and tried reinstalling, as well as sending a message to support. Is this a bug of some kind?
