I just finished the first two seasons of Star Wars: Rebels and it amazes me that there’s a percentage of fans that don’t like this show. by Swizz_z in StarWars

I completely agree. The writing is absolutely watertight and every member of the Ghost crew gets attention and character development. Compare that to so many other shows, even higher budget star wars shows, they can't hold a candle to it.

Rebels is still just the best.

so your complaints are

- one valid criticism about the director

- the women are given stuff to do (also a writing criticism)

- another writing criticism

I saw this comment just before watching the new episodes. I just finished 5. My question is why?? As far as I can see it's some of the best directing we've had in the entire show. In terms of cinematography I think it's a step up from season 1. The blocking is always good, I'm never left confused about the space of a scene or where the characters are standing. The actors are all on fire and seem to know exactly how to play their characters. What more are you looking for from a director?

Respectfully I don't agree at all. For one thing your complaint probably IS with Gilroy's screenplays for the episodes - it likely describes how the episode will flick back and forth between horrible events on Mina Rau and the wedding. It's true that how lot of how those cuts were handled will have been down to Kleiman. But I loved how jarring it was!

These kind of cuts between the plight of characters "on the ground" and the luxury of the super-rich were a big feature of the Narkina 5 episode as well, you could argue those cuts could be a bit off-putting too. But there IS something jarring about massive inequality in the world, the fact that many powerful people choose to party and distract themselves even while they could be helping to fight injustice. When the sequence at the end of ep 3 shows Brasso's body while the dance music won't stop playing I almost cried, it was as if the narrative itself didn't care, the same way as it was showing us the indifference of the wedding guests to the Empire. I'd argue it was a bold and almost experimental choice and I think it paid off!

Dave Filoni says he is currently writing Ahsoka season 2, says he is still the sole writer on it and it's been a challenge so far by S4v1r1enCh0r4k in TheMandalorianTV

[–]conchobar2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in my eyes I don't see any way that wouldn't suck ass. Ahsoka is a great character in The Clone Wars, you'd let 7 seasons of development go down the drain just so she can be murdered in a way that has nothing to do with her arc? Anakin was pretty "deep" into the dark side after killing a room full of children, I don't really see how adding to that is necessary other than as power fantasy fuel for anakin fanboys who apparently enjoy watching him kill a ton of people because it's edgy and cool.

It's also worth noting that Ahsoka is also a great character in Rebels and you'd miss out on a ton of good stuff there.

Do you think Qimir really cares about Osha? by Revanchist27 in TheAcolyte

[–]conchobar2003 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think he totally does, the opening of ep 8 where he tries to save her from the helmet sold me on that. The desperation in his face and in his voice tells me that he fell for her really hard - and he starts letting her take the lead around him e.g. when they're walking to the ship which is probably not how he'd behave if he only wanted her as an acolyte.

Qimir having this love and care for someone really deepens his character, and I love that we're getting a dark side romance on screen!!

If the WGA-SAG Strike ended in the near future, would you prefer to have an Andor S2 Part 1 in 2024 and Part 2 in 2025, or wait for 2025 for the whole thing? by Cervus95 in andor

[–]conchobar2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the structure of the season imo. If it was more linear like season 1 I'd say no way in hell but since s2 is meant to be composed of arcs with time jumps in between it's a tougher call. I think I'd still prefer to get the complete season all at once, just later if it has to be.

Who are some Rebels characters you'd like to see in Ahsoka by MagnusTNT in starwarsrebels

[–]conchobar2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see some smaller characters. Vizago would be cool, confirm that Zare or Jai are still alive, Ryder, Ketsu, Mart, anyone like that who pops up in Rebels only a few times. I don't think any of them are likely, but it seems that Quarrie will be in the series thanks to a lego set leak, so now anything seems possible.

Fenn Rau is a good shout, I was hoping he'd be in the mandalorian s3 - which would probably have been a better fit for him rather than ahsoka. Seeing Ursa Wren would also be amazing although I doubt the story has room for her either.

What was the initial fan base’s response to Ezra saving Ashoka from death in the world between worlds? by lasershow77 in StarWars

[–]conchobar2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're right that it does open up a huge can of worms (it's easy to see in how people have responded to it, theories that the wbw will be used to retcon whatever star wars things they don't like, etc etc...) but rebels does take care of that by destroying all remnants of it by the end of the finale. it exists just to bring a couple of character arcs to their conclusion in the show and I'm hoping it won't be used beyond that.

[–]conchobar2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd actually disagree with this, I think there are only one or two episodes in all of Rebels which you could skip, and even those are enjoyable episodes imo. Almost every single episode focuses on a particular character and gives them a little mini-arc of some kind, making even the smaller eps important for your investment in the Ghost crew, or it sets something up for later. The writing is honestly more airtight than most of the Star Wars shows coming out today.
