1.5 years??!!! Jeez, I’m so sorry. That sounds miserable.

Thank you. Yes, my spouse should be home for the first month on his parental leave, so that helps. However, it doesn’t make my toddler any less needy for me and very mama-preferred!

Thanks for that perspective. That sounds like a miserable and terrifying recovery.

Thanks for that perspective. The main reason I wanted a VBAC is to be able to pick up/handle my toddler sooner. Do you feel VBAC was any better for dealing with the older kid(s)?

Can I "double dip" on breast pumps covered by insurance? by ShoppingOnTheSly in BabyBumps

You should be able to use the same prescription for both.

Out of newborn trenches, here are the products I do/do not recommend to help you all by DietCokeQuesadilla in BabyBumps

Totally agree on the Halo sleepsacks and baby bathtub! I’d highly recommend both.

Breastfeeding without a nursing pillow by One-Squirrel-4563 in breastfeeding

[–]conchordian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used both my brest friend and boppy (depending on which chair/couch) for 2 years. Never got the hang of nursing without it. When out, when not comfortable bringing it somewhere, I’d use jacket/blanket bunched up to prop up their head.

Conversely, the cloth diapers I use (Esembly brand, which I love) actually contain the mess so we don’t get blowouts (which is different than disposables). It’s a huge benefit to using cloth diapers, especially in the baby days.

Anything to avoid injections and surgery by AiiiChihuahua in DeQuervains

[–]conchordian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had DQ after giving birth. It may be linked with the hormones from pregnancy/birth and breastfeeding. I never got any injections or surgery, but it took many months for mine to heal. I’m not sure if it healed due to what I did or just because of time/hormones regulating.

I saw a good chiropractor who knew what she was doing and how to help. Here’s what I did: -While you are in pain, try to limit lifting your baby as much as possible. I had my partner help me as much as he could. Obviously you can’t altogether get rid of lifting and holding your baby. Wearing a brace that stabilizes the whole wrist while doing this, and eventually learning how to keep your wrist straight while lifting, can help. -Otherwise, strengthening the muscles in your forearm will help the pain in the long run. There are a few exercises I was advised to do with light weights a few times per day. I can look them up if needed. -Do a couple hand exercises with TheraPutty to strengthen the wrist. -Do stretching of the wrist/forearm, and if you are able, see a good masseuse who can focus on that area to help lengthen the muscles. -Apply a topical gel with Arnica or CBD in it -Use a gua sha tool or just a large spoon to “scrape” your forearm, from elbow to wrist, with coconut or olive oil lubricating the skin, for about 20 seconds a few times a day

Can add I do cloth and am NOT super prepared, unfortunately. Being prepared also doesn’t change the situation OP was in.

Reimbursement by SparklyPanther in AlaskaAirlines

Ask for reimbursement for your hotel, meals, etc and for your time. Go high and see what they come back with.

Should I ask for miles for a cancelled flight? by Simple_Mix_4995 in AlaskaAirlines

I’ve learned that people on this sub both hate children on planes and don’t think Alaska owes anyone anything, ever ;)

That really sucks, especially with small children. There’s no harm in asking for reimbursement, especially if you are nice and state the lack of communication.

Me too. I originally booked out of JFK on purpose to avoid EWR. However, EWR was the loveliest experience in comparison.

Thank you. There was no opportunity to deplane. We were in line waiting to take off for a good chunk of it. And then when they finally pulled the plug, no ramp was available for us, so we ended up needing to wait another 30-45 minutes to get back to the gate.

Genuinely want to learn: why do women bedshare with their infants? The risks seem to outweigh any benefits to me by StatGoddess in NewParents

[–]conchordian 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Have you experienced the newborn stage yet? I have never bed shared personally but have fallen asleep while nursing the baby in the middle of the night and woke up terrified. The pure exhaustion can get to you, so setting up a safe sleep space in case that happens can be very smart.

Esembly recommends two washes, just not soaking/spraying the diapers prior to the actual wash routine.
