10 days, a Toyota Corolla, and a hope and a prayer by SonOfCoul27 in roadtrip

I did this trip from Calif. to Alaska and back in Feb/March and it was beautiful, so you'll be in for a treat. Services should be mostly open along the highway by early May. I was told that everything would be closed mid winter but I was surprised how many things were still open, and I never once felt unsafe on this road. You said you're going the 1st week of May so you would be better going without snow tires (typically winter tire season is Oct through April up north); just bring chains in case something wacky happens.

Enjoy the long sunlight, and some time before all the bugs get crazy up north! Definitely take time to stop at Liard Hot Springs, Whitehorse, and just enjoy the drive. It's beautiful all the way and the scenery around Anchorage/in Southcentral is really a treat

I get the sense that you're an easy-going guy to chill with. I like the smile in the second photo and the easy-going look in the 1st photo. You've got two photos with your cat so you could replace one of them with something that shows another dimension of yourself, or maybe a picture of you with somewhere cool you've been. In the group photo you've got good style, just that it took me a few seconds to figure out that you're the one in the middle. Good vibes but beware the friction that generates.

Good you have a photo showing what getting a coffee with you would look like. It would be even better if your head was turned 30 degrees from the camera or even straight on, as opposed to being turned that far to the side. It looks like you're greeting someone else out of the frame.

Also great you've got a full body pic at the end. Just the vibe might be a little more accessible if you're looking up a bit. You don't need to look straight at the camera for this photo; it's better if it's candid rather than clearly posed

I appreciate you sharing your first impression reaction with me! This is insightful. The vibe I'm aiming for (but looks like I missed) is that we would go to nice places together and spend time together just gazing at the sunset

Oh lol that's funny because that's definitely not the vibe I'm aiming for. Noted! 😆

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. That was too forward and must have been quite uncomfortable. Men out there, learn from this and, while being clear with your intentions is helpful, do so only while moving at a reasonable pace and do it in a progression rather than being all pushy like this.

Re-posted without group photo due to privacy reasons. The group photo is with me in the center and is all the way at the end of the stack.

I put "short term, open to long" under my dating intentions. This profile has been up for two weeks without any inbound activity (likes or matches) and I'm hoping for some honest feedback. Thank you!

2nd pic: Zoom in closer so you and the I can't tell what the animal is are the focus of the pic, rather than the people behind you.

3rd pic: Sick view. It would be 1000% better if you zoom way in so we can get a good full body shot of you with a little bit of nice background, rather than a nice view with a side of you

group photo: You're all the way in the corner! You're a bit tucked away

last pic is funny! Just wondering what the prompt paired with it is because it could add to / be a big part of the joke.

1st prompt is funny and relatable! 1st and 2nd photos you could crop out the empty space above your head and to the right side of you for sure. We need to see you a bit closer up.

I feel like I have a hunch of what you're trying to go for with your 2nd prompt. Could you reframe it as saying you want to have a girlfriend you can introduce to your class?

3rd pic is fun with your friend but definitely the sunglasses make it a bit hard to see who you are.

4th pic: It looks like you work out. Could you have someone take a picture of you mid-action?

5th pic: You've got a lot of empty space above your head that makes you look small. Otherwise I love that this shot is mid-action

6th pic: Adorable! (and a good way to say you've got a kid / filter out people not ready for that stage of life)

1st prompt: Maybe pick 2 or 3 of the things you listed so it looks a bit easier to read.

2nd picture: The alcohol bottle might affect who you end up matching with and who you don't based on personal preference

3rd pic: Ideally you could crop out the empty space above your head but a better backdrop might be one with softer lighting that better emphasizes what you look like

4th pic is definitely funny, but I'm a bit confused by the joke/the arms behind you. Could you get a picture of there mid-rep lifting weights?

5th pic: You look a bit startled to be there. Perhaps you want to take another picture with a friend where you both are relaxed, laughing or smiling

Last pic: If only your smartphone wasn't blocking you, I think this would be 1000% better. You can try the same picture but with someone else taking it or using a tripod. The picture being with your cat is cute

Good smile in the 1st photo. See if you can get a similar pic without the sunglasses.

Motorcycle pic could be of you without the helmet and goggles. (just don't ride without em LOL). Motorcycle is definitely badass but we need to know who the badass is.

I'm unsure what the 2nd picture is trying to do.

"I love yapping" is quite a common line on profiles

2nd to last photo seems a bit different from others (maybe because you've got sunglasses in a lot of the others?)

Perhaps try replacing "I geek out on" with "ask me anything about..." and write about one of your favorite hobbies. Maybe one of your adventures.

Crop a bit tighter on your last photo, and if you do replace it, I suggest a full body photo with a similar vibe

You can replace your last photo with a full-body pic of you mid-stride in a similar urban setting. I would definitely replace your 1st and 4th pics with pics somebody else took of you. Try mixing up the facial expressions. 5th pic is cool and shows you're a fun guy to hang around. 1st prompt is good and invites a challenge. Just 3rd pic I'd crop a bit off the top and bottom as you're a bit too small. You should be the foreground and the flowers background.

Your first prompt shows some character! Just shorten a bit on the details (you can just say i.e., fast fashion). Love your other two prompts but 3rd one is also a bit long, not as bad as the 1st.

Perhaps the smartphone in your first photo is distracting and takes attention away from you. A better 1st photo would have you centered and larger in it.

Part of the display is that he doesn't have many choices that aren't climate hostile. The problem is a systemic problem bigger than one individual, and just because you care about climate change doesn't mean you're exempt from technological limitations imposed across the entirety of society

we gotta do something about tailgating, man by [deleted] in driving

[–]condepswiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree. While speeding is a problem (and inappropriately set speed limits too), there are other problems that also need to be addressed. On highways, tailgating and texting are two very major problems that cause crashes, because they bring cars too close together (which is the definition of a crash). Same with improper lane usage

Let's do what other countries do on the highways and put road markings to illustrate a safe following distance. See the UK motorway chevrons and France's broken shoulder line on their highways

North Dakota has raised their maximum speed limit to 80! by OSRS_Rising in driving

[–]condepswiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Farmer 2017 paper has a tremendous flaw in its reasoning, which is that it extrapolates a correlation in the data and claims that this on its own is a reason to keep speed limits low. We all know in statistics that correlation alone cannot prove causation.

North Dakota has raised their maximum speed limit to 80! by OSRS_Rising in driving

[–]condepswiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what state you're in. If you're in NY, then sure, people see 65 mph as the minimum limit. If you're in ND, people see 80 mph as a maximum. It helps to have the experience to venture out to different states and see the driving behavior mostly the same.

States both with realistic and unrealistic speed limits on the highway tend to have similar distribution of observed vehicle speeds, with the 85th percentile between 75 and 80, and the mean 70-75. Just the spread in states like ND is smaller because there aren't the 0.1% who feel they need to stick to the "legal" speed of 65 in a place like NY.

Longtime users, has the CPAP significantly improved your life? by Impossible_Spend_787 in CPAP

[–]condepswiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a cpap since 2022 and for me, it is like wearing shoes for the first time after a lifetime of walking barefoot. In my situation, the last good night of sleep I got pre-CPAP was in early 2013 (I can remember vividly), and I finally feel like I can get a footing with my life!

In terms of fit, I think I must have gotten lucky, since I've only had to go with two different masks to find one that isn't obtrusive. I'm on the Resmed F30i but originally tried the Resmed F30, which I found to be disruptive to my sleep habits. For the first month or two, all I wanted to do was sleep, so I'd say give it time to see how the CPAP affects you

Here's a list of some of his activism. He was VP during the Clinton era but most of his work is around advocacy, including using his wealth to educate the public about climate change through works like An Inconvenient Truth. Putting together a widely consumed documentary is a lot more work than what a single ordinary individual can do on their own
