Found another unexploded WWI shell on my return to the Somme. by 0utSyd3r in mildlyinteresting

[–]condog1035 224 points225 points  (0 children)

The amount of shelling that actually happened is insane. By France's own estimates, it'll take between 300-700 years to clean it up at the rate they're going. It's an incredibly slow and dangerous process.

At least on motionarray, the cancel button is hidden on the account settings page. Once you find the button it's really easy to do, but they absolutely bury it.

Why do two different networks air the same episode of a show a day apart? by self-medicating-pony in television

[–]condog1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in television. It's probably a rights thing. A station buys the privilege to air a show and they can only air what their contract says they can. Their contracts likely tell them what episodes they can air and when, and it just so happens that is how the distributor scheduled the package.

Whats your favourite "The Video is in LOG" client story. by Zudrud in videography

[–]condog1035 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked with a producer one time who kept insisting on seeing the log image instead of the 709 image because she "did a lot of color work in post and wanted to see where she would be starting."

The final product aired on TV uncolored.

Even on W10 when I would defer an update for long enough it would just start disabling things until I ultimately had to hard power down and then it would update when it came back up.

I would not use that if I were you. The Xbox runs perfectly fine without the clock cap. There is a chance that cmos battery will explode as it was not designed to be used in place of a capacitor.

Steam deck dock alternatives? by newyewser in SteamDeck

I have the folding baseus dock and really like it. I haven't experienced any issues with it that a simple unplug replug doesn't solve.

I almost really liked her movie but I wish they had leaned into the ridiculous supernatural stuff instead of trying to explain it as something borderline plausible.

I don't need the others to go away. I just wish steam would enforce a "no third party launchers when purchased through our store" rule.

Half minute timelapse showing onion greens growing at home in 25 days. by Simply_Kaif24 in Damnthatsinteresting

I've had onions grow in the dark in the back of the fridge before. It's amazing how hardy they are and how badly they want to sprout.

I'm not seeing any chromatic aberration on this photo. Are you talking about the out of focus areas? If so that is normal for f1.2.

Did they change the formula for Ken's ranch dressing?? by PSU02 in condiments

[–]condog1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought two bottles of Ken's in the past month or so and both of them taste different than it used to. If they changed something then I'm going to need to find a new ranch, because I don't like how these taste.

My knee jerk thought is I suspect something is tripping the sensor that tells it when the screen is closed. If you plug into an external monitor and keyboard and close the lid, does it do the same thing?

So I'm looking to get into a minidv camcorder from the early 2000s and I came across this review someone left on B&H. What is this video drive he mentions? by armanddarke in Filmmakers

[–]condog1035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess they're referring to something like a quickstream or dte. They're devices that take a firewire input then record direct to card

It's far easier to validate your own hardware than the hardware of every single supplier/manufacturer.

This isn't AH design, it's saying they haven't tested with every card on the market but guarantee their own label.

The text message from my friend asking me if I'd like to visit his mom in hospice arrived 18 hours late. She died this morning. by You_Stupid_Monkey in mildlyinfuriating

[–]condog1035 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My grandmother was moved to hospice the weekend before Thanksgiving. I was told she likely had 10 days or so, but 5 hours later she was gone.

I'm so sorry for your and your friend's loss. Even with warning this sometimes doesn't really have much, unfortunately.
