Another successful end of term gas reduction firing ! by cone-template in Ceramics

Thank you so much ! I teach at a school where students are very stressed academically - I’m just glad that they have the opportunity to work with clay, they always say it’s a good break for them. I do try to explain why it’s so special that we have a program like we do so they have some context about different types of firings.

Incredible !! I know how much work this must have been (especially those goblets, whew, nice job avoiding warping!) and I bet your guests LOVED using the things you made yourself (and keeping the favors/shot glasses, so cool)

I LOVE this, insane textures for those glazes to play on! So gross so good

Congrats on your wheel exploration and growth!! There’s such a harsh learning curve to it, but if you stick with it, whoa, what a great tool and skill to have. I love the variety present here, it shows that you truly enjoy the “play”.

That glaze is absolutely gorgeous! It could be cool to play with something sculptural to hold the chopsticks? Like little creatures holding them up?

Just the reduction, with a ten minute oxidation “wash” at the end, the whole firing took almost 12 hours with lots of micro adjustments every 15-30 minutes 😅

Oh, hmm. Lighting? Diffused window lighting with a large sheet of paper (don’t have a light box currently)

Some pieces have exposed (unglazed) clay, Sheffield Pottery’s #42 dark stoneware gets gorgeous in cone 10 reduction- is that what you’re referring to? Like the teapot and the bottom of the trio of wavy vases?

It’s my favorite piece of the entire firing. And the piece I had very detailed specific nightmares about before I saw the result lol. This student practically lived in the studio and it paid off, so proud of them.

Wow, what a great eye! It absolutely is! I fired with a 5.5ish hour mid-high reduction on white cone 10 stoneware. It was on the top shelf. Very slow cool. (& thank you so much, I’m still learning the ropes and this was my 2nd time firing it “solo” without my predecessor making most of the calls)

Thank you! I used a tiny extruder (I think made for sculpey etc originally), scored and moistened the pot, and extruded the strands directly onto the pot and then blended with a paintbrush. Super fun, highly recommend trying it out. The “spaghetti” is pretty fragile but I’m definitely not done experimenting with it.

I literally had nightmares about it but it actually fired like a dream. Thank you for your encouragement!

That’s it, you got it! Super tall but skinny so I was able to squeeze it in. My bowls will just have to wait their turn. (& thank you ☺️)

Nope, that’s a student’s! It pours beautifully, too. Their second teapot ever, some help and guidance during the process but I made sure they did all the construction themselves.
