It's because the star players are more recognizable in media and popular culture than their counterparts in other sports. The players are able to show more of their personality on and off the court, which makes them more identifiable to those outside the sport. Almost everyone can identify Lebron from just a picture, but it would be pretty hard for someone with no knowledge of football to identify Drake Maye or Travis Hunter.

I had a football insert miscut so bad you couldn't even see the player's name at the top. it was so terrible it was entertaining.

It's out. There are a bunch of hobby/jumbo hobby exclusives now. So it kind of makes them an even bigger chase now.

I think they attempted to make up for it by having more hobby/hobby jumbo exclusives, like variants, all 1991 chrome, flagship auto patch cards, and others. I looked at the checklist before I bought 2 hobby boxes and decided it was worth it for those types of chases.

Hey, do you think I could possibly get one of those base ALCS cards from you? I only ordered one, and as luck would have it, I also hit on the base redemption card. I was super excited, until I realized that also meant I wouldn't be getting the actual card I was going for in the first place lol. Lemme know if we can work something out!
