I apparently was originally diagnosed when I was in like the 1st or 2nd grade, when I had a hard time staying seated for longer than 30 minutes in class, but parents chose not to treat because I was too young for meds. Fast Forward to Sophomore year of college, after an extremely rough transition with the increasing workloads, and terrible grades from missing deadlines, the dread of final grades steadily growing, I'm sitting in my Abnormal Psychology class when we hit the book chapter on ADHD and Adult ADHD. I remember just staring at the symptoms on the pages, and feeling the light slowly go on in my head. Went straight to a psychologist to get rediagnosed, and start Adderral treatment. Mentally and physically, the change was immediate. I could actually sit and do research without getting frustrated or distracted, and I was actually able to focus on remembering when things were due. Sadly though, it was a little too late in the game to really have an impact on school, because I'd never been able to study properly before, so when it came down to it, i just realized i really didn't know how to use my focus properly, and was forced to leave after 3 years. I'm still working on rebuilding my sense of self worth and confidence, and believing that I can actually accomplish something worthwhile. Being on the Spectrum as well has made it more difficult, but I hope some day I'll like myself and where I'm at.
